Im joining this group because I need to address my lying problem. I've been lying my entire life! Hiding things and manipulating the truth to avoid conflicts. Now it has got me into deep trouble with my wife to the point where she doesn't trust me anymore. We were about to close on a house in a few weeks, but, I wasn't telling her about my finances, and our mortgage is even more expensive now. I'm tired of all the pain I've caused in my life, and need help identifying WHY I lie so much. Thanks for listening. Glad to be here.

The most important step is the first one and you are there. Admitting that you have a problem and owning up to it. There are many reasons why we lie. Ashamed or embarrassed, make ourselves look better, afraid of confrontation...the important thing is to recognize why, learn your triggers, lose your ego and become humble. Everything is easier said than done and it is a lot of work and will take a long time to heal. I am in the beginning stages myself. Good luck to you

Lying is very self serving. You say it's all about me. My feelings trump all regardless. We of course lie out of fear. Fear of what someone will think about us, fear of rejection, judgement, etc. it is us manipulating the world to create a false image of ourselves. I agree it is ego driven. Get out of the head and into your heart! You know when you are lying. There is something inside that tells us it is wrong. Listen to that voice. It's our higher power speaking to us. Accept your imperfections as they define who we really are. Remember that courage is not having fear. It is doing the right thing despite your fear.

Thank you guys. Those two messages alone have just opened my eyes to a bigger picture. It's going to be an uphill battle, but, with support like this community I know I can conquer this sickness.

Lying out of fear is my biggest hurdle that I will need to take on head first.

Well, you are in the boat with a lot of us with very similar issues. We're all trying to work it out in our heads and in our life. read through a lot of the things you find on this website and I think you will be enlightened in many ways. I was and it's helped me a lot.
