i have reached the end of my own bullshit and just am sick of lying and hurting those closest to me and hurting myself in the process. I don't want to lie I don't want to hurt people and give them reason to doubt me. I need help and I am trying to work on this but I know it won't be easy. Is there anyone out there who can help me and offer some guidence and support? I have no idea where to begin or what to say but I want to fix myself and fix the things around me.

I am in a similar place. I have been concocting small lies here and there to my girlfriend and, one thing leading to another, I am sitting in a web of lies that is very difficult to keep track of and, once she found out, very difficult of her to hear. I have read a lot of stuff about lying being an addiction, one that needs to be broken and rewired. Every time you are about to lie, there is a rush of dopamine in certain areas of your brain, similar to that of using a drug. To stop the lying, we must pause before speaking. Our first instinct is to lie, and we must change that by introducing time between being asked something and responding. Though your peers may find this uncomfortable, as though you are trying to cover up a lie, it will help with that initial urge to just lie. I wish you the best of luck in your battle, I know I need support and luck for mine as well.

Thank you so much for the kind words and yes it is a sickness that needs to be stopped. We are all sick of making excuses and I will be hopefully having a chance to talk with my girlfriend so I have the opportunity to explain this and be able to show myself and those around me I can be honest. If you need anything or any support please feel free to reach out thank you agaian for your help.

The hardest part for me right now is that my intentions and my feelings for her are stronger than they have ever been. After finding some of my lies out, and others that I told her, she is devastated. She is unsure of what is real and what is fake, and terrified with moving forward with me because of how easily I deceived her and promised her that I was being honest with everything. Right now, she just wants time to be alone, so I am scared that my actions have pushed her away beyond coming back...

I totally can relate I am in the EXACT same situation. Nothing we say and or do makes up for it. Perfect example i told the truth this morning about something and she didn't believe me bc of the web of lies and who knows what's real or not and now it's almost like she is always looking for the lie instead of trying to focus on us. So for your girl time alone may be something you have to let happen and it sucks a lot bc we want to be with them and love them and give them the world...and we can we just have to stay focused on the goals at hand and like you said breathe take a few seconds then answer find the truth not the lie.
