1. Breathe Before Responding: just taking a moment before letting the lie come out and thinking about the impact has helped tremendously. I found that as a liar, I was answering without thinking. I was being reactive and not forthcoming. That moment to just think has meant the world to me.
2. Be Honest Moment By Moment: I found that when I let a situation build over time, the more time I had to convince myself the only way out was to lie. I have to be honest in the moment. Text, phone call, in person...I had to be honest almost immediately or the feelings of low self worth and inadequacy built up to a point that I needed to lie to feel safe and secure in my own skin.
3. Remove My Own Pride: I was way to focused on the outcome for me vs the impact to others. When I reflected on who I was becoming, I realized I was not a person people even recognized. I built a mask for myself I needed to live up to - protecting my true self underneath. That 'pride' to show the world I could handle things became my persona and to live up to it, I had to hide my true feelings and thoughts from everyone, even those close.
Keep reading and seeking. As the X-Files used to say, the truth is out there. Funny thing is, that truth is the easiest thing to find but the hardest to give. Dont give up on yourself.
