Hello My name is Brittany I am 23,
I have been lying for as long as I can remember. I started a relationship with this AMAZING man March 2015 and I have lied to him whether it be minor or major. I am ashamed that I can not stop lying to the man who has been nothing but nice to me from day 1. He has never yelled, cussed, been mean or changed how he respond to me even after the all the lies... However recently I made the worst mistake I could ever make and that was lie and cheat on him. I feel terrible about my actions and worst of all how bad I hurt him...... I tell him everyday that I care about him etc. but it can never show because I continue to lie.... I want to tell him the entire truth but I am scared that as soon as he finds out EVERYTHING he will leave.... But I don't want to lie to him anymore, I hate hiding who I am from him, I hate that I have lost all trust from him, I hate I hurt him as bad as I did.... I can not continue like this I know that if I keep lying he will leave but if I tell him everything he might leave there is a small possibility that he might stay and I have to stick with that... I really really need help and support that is why I joined this group... I can not continue my life like this...

We lie out of fear. Fear of rejection, abandonment, not being accepted or liked..! Learn to love yourself for who you are. No need to be anyone else! Be open with those you love even if it something you think they may not want to hear. I have been where you are and didn't start to work on change until I was much older! Good for you desiring to loose this tendency now! Don't let the past dictate your future. It got you to where you are but does not need to dictate where you choose to go. And know you are not alone!! Again, welcome... like Mikey said, we lie for a lot of different reasons, but they seem to come from the same place.... we don't like ourselves, or the real selves, or we want to present a self to others we think they want to see.

Good luck. Know that you have a lot of support here. Keep reading and participating, and keep learning about yourself such that you can accept yourself.

Nice to meet you.... I am going to try and do everything I can to make things right.... I can have a great future and so can you and everyone else with this issue/addiction... So I choose to start now and I know everyday is not going to be as easy as some days but I was always told things worth having will not come easy and if it does it i not right or for you...

Brittany, I am in basically the same position (minus the cheating). I've lied consistently to my girlfriend and now I'm afraid she is going to leave me.

The best thing you can do is let him know you are fully committed to change. You won't get his trust back overnight, it might takes months or even years. But if you love someone you don't stop fighting for them.

Tell him you're committed to change, and if you really want to keep him don't cheat again.

Thank you. I have been doing that since. I posted this up and it has been slowly getting better. I don't lie to him or try and hide stuff anymore I have changed my whole thought process and have become a positive person. Its still things that I have to work on on this journey of mine but I have come a LONG way and I have come to far to turn back now.

niccar113, you're right. If you do love someone you don't stop fighting for them. My husband says that I have never truly loved him or cared for him, and that I can stop the pretence now. I miss him all the time and strangely I miss him more when he is right beside me. Waking up in the mornings is hell as he is lying in the bed next to me and hasn't touched me because he wanted to for nearly week. A night ago I thought he was asleep and whispered that I miss him. This morning he told me that he had heard me, and that I would get used to it. I told him that I might get used to it, but I wouldn't stop missing him. He's sleeping well because he isn't thinking about things. I sleep well but then wake up early and can't stop thinking about how I wish he would cuddle me again. I'm not going to give up hope that he might find something in me that he likes again, even if he doesn't find anything to love.
