To say that one will never lie again in their entire life, is probably impossible. For me, realizing what triggers a lie and learning to recognize that I am about to lie has helped. Before admitting that I had a problem and hitting rock bottom, I would lie without thought, they would just come out as normal thoughts. Learning to really think about it and catch it before it happens (I've actually been rambling along and let out a lie and then immediately retracted it, which gets you awkward looks but I just keep on). I also don't believe all lies are bad but when you are trying to recover from being a liar, any little lie can put you back, so I try very hard to not tell a lie of any kind. It's work and it isn't easy, but I think it's worth trying to accomplish.

In my opinion, nope. But like JP said, learning about why you lie, and how you feel, will help.

I think, too, that there's a difference between not telling lies and living in honesty. Now, I'm not making excuses for lying or downplaying the worthiness of this endeavor, but what I'm saying is that I think that striving to be honest and living in honesty will guide what you say, especially to the people you care about.

I thought the same thing. I have been doing pretty well. I do slip up from time to time. But for the most part if I have to respond to something, I take time to think about what I am about to say so I make sure it is not a lie coming out. That seems to help me.

Probably impossible in that there exist legitamate reasons to bend the truth to "honestly" protect someone. I do feel however that there is a type of living where telling a lie is actually uncomfortable and foreign. IKR!!??!! It was a part of my everyday life. I didn't even recognize/realize the exaggerations and lies that were told. Now, I couldn't be a partner to that person. I understand how abnormal that behavior pattern was. I have never been a "bad" person. I am successful career wise, I have fabulous kids, .... But I had this incredible insecurity and need to be liked, need to be perfect, codependent attributes, etc. Lots of proverbial layers of the onion to peel back! Read Bryne Brown. She talks about living BIG. Boundaries/integrity/gratitude. I have never been a religious person but I am now rumbling with a sort of spirituality. Maybe a cross between Buddasim and Native American Ha ha!! But joking aside, a more wholehearted approach to life. One away from what can you do for me to what can I do to serve. At the end of the day I am less stressed and certainly more content. I have learned that I truly am enough. I posted today something I saw that really struck me. The definition of authenticity: what happens when your love of truth becomes more important to you than what others think of you. And remember we are all human and there fore by definition not perfect!!!!
