I have been lying my whole life but recently my wife of 18years gave me a ultimatum I stop lying or she's gone well I did good for awhile but I lied about a job she would've been ok with the fact that I didn't get the job but I lied so here we are mine hiding the love of my life and my kids as well and she may leave I wouldn't blame her but what am I gonna do to stop this foolish and hurtful and petty lying if I'm lucky enough to keep her I really do love her with every waking breath I hate myself so much

I know where you're coming from - there are many of us here that have lied again and again, past the point where we should have stopped long ago. The most important thing I can tell you is that you have to stop lying because you want to be a better person, not because you don't want her to leave you. She may leave you no matter what you do but you have to commit to living a truthful and honest life or else bad things will continue to plague you. Look around this site and see that others have been down this road - and many have found ways to improve. I sincerely hope it all works out.

Yes truly it is a vicious circle we get ourselves into. It's hard to get out of. Habits in general are hard to break but this bad bad habit is particularly difficult. I went on for 30 . Finally as a 60 year old man started to getting it together. Work on it as hard as you can and as fast as you can so your life doesn't get any worse than it already is and you can start the road back. Good luck

I am finally admitting I “deny, delude or lie” to my wife of 53 years. I don’t know why but the first words that come out of my mouth is wrong! I don’t think we will actually make it to 53 years (Mar. 20) since I am on notice that she is finished forgiving me. I don’t even know how to fix it!

Hi BMorris. Admitting what you've been doing is the first step. Keep at it, Work with your wife to learn some things that you can do to change your habits, and working with her could help to fix your relationship, giving her some hope that things can get better. Fixing this stuff takes a long time. Don't give up.
