A support group to provide those with a compulsive addiction to lie a place to share hope, strength and courage with others like them; solve our common problem and help others with a compulsion to lie. We aren't alone!
My family, the love of my life, my unborn child, all of it will be gone before I know it if I don’t get help. I live life in partial delusion and use white lies or shade the truth for absolutely no reason at all. Generally it’s nothing very serious but it’s put my integrity into question with those I love the most. I fear losing her more than anything. Maybe it’s my own self esteem? Or I’m just conditioned to impulsively edit facts when I don’t think it matters, but the problem is it always matters. I need help. I’m scared now more than I have ever been in my entire life.
I've given this advice to a few other people, and repeating it compels me to keep doing the same thing.
Start with a daily conversation with yourself in the mirror first thing when you get up. Tell yourself something true about you and go from there. I imagine, if you are like me, having a history of lies that you can tell when someone is being untruthful with you. You won't want to be the person lying to you. When you can be truthful with yourself that is a success. And your truths can go into the next step.
You may find journaling helps, and I encourage you to do so. Get 2 notebooks, one each to record your lies told each day and your truths told each day. The beginning will be discouraging because the lies may fill more quickly, but over time that won't be the case. And as you tell yourself truths in the mirror every day, those can qualify as your truth entries and serve as an encouragement to you.
And of course keep coming back. That's paramount to success.

You can't stop lying to save your family, but you can stop to save yourself. You will never be any good for no one if you're no good for yourself. It takes six months of constant change to change behavior, so you will have to sacrifice all that you have grown to know about yourself.
I say these things not to tare you down but to build you up. You have to know that this will not be easy, but you can and will do it. Some people have to be faced with the lost of someone else, and some have to be faced with the lost of losing themselves. before they make change. Stand up and take back what the devil has stole from you. One day one step at a time. We are here for you be encouraged.
