I have been lying to myself and to others for over 40 years. It all started when I was young and was very afraid to get yelled at and beaten. But then as I found "success" with lying over the years, I have it down to a science. I can lie straight to your face and not even blink an eye. I can manipulate people and situations such that I can lie to take advantage of people's weak spots.

I look at myself and say "Who are you?" My wife is sick and tired of my lies and is threatening to leave me. I cannot say I blame her as would I want to live with a liar like myself?

How can a liar say "I am treally trying to stop" and have other people believe them? I am no longer trusted by my wife and have really let her and myself down.

I need help to stop this addiction. this compulsive lying is eventually going to take everything I care about away.

I don't have an answer, I'm in the exact same boat. I can lie to someone's face and they do not know. I can cry even when I am lying, and convince myself that I'm not lying.

Do you have specific triggers? Are you doing it to avoid conflict?

Troubled, I think coming clean on your own even after your mess up and lie can really make a difference. When I do that, people are much less frustrated then when they figure it out themselves. It takes a lot to "come clean" even when you do not necessarily "have to."

Yes Thank you all for your replies. I do lie to avoid confrontation. I was verbally and physically abused when I was young, and my lying stems from that. But I use it more than in that type of situation
