Ugh... I’ve made such good strides but I’ve lied again. Busted and hurt my perfect wife another time. I can’t show her that I’ve gotten better when I relapse like this. She feels like nothing has changed and I’ve worked so hard. How do you all maintain and stay focused?

No one here is perfect - we've all had backslides and lied again, after swearing we wouldn't. You just have to double down and keep going. Eventually you'll see that you go days between lies, then weeks, then months, etc. That's the only way. If it's a long-time habit, you won't be able to just change overnight... it's a process and it never ends. You just keep going. Did you confess the lie or did she find it out? If you confessed it, then even if you hurt her, you did the right thing by admitting your mistake.

It is a really hard thing. Habits are hard to break. Forming other habits to fight the old ones is one way that has helped me. 1 habit is to keep reading at this website to remind myself of the awfulness I have created in our lives. That might help you also.

Thank you both. To answer the question, she found out. I knew I was being deceitful but it didn’t register the magnitude. I have a hard time recognizing in the moment that I’m doing it again. I’m about to hurt my wife again for a selfish lie. I like the idea of new habits. This is a very long issue for me. Atleast 25 years. Thank you both again for the insight

I learned something here. Manually track each day's progress. If you annotate every day on your calendar that you DON'T lie, it serves as an incentive to be straight all day. You know you have to log that "black mark" if you fall off the wagon. Powerful medecine

I like that.

Thank you

Get, man - it's worked for me. Like an alcoholic who takes pride in saying "... I am XXX days/months/years sober", I can say that I am 4 days truthful. Good feeling
