It's hard and as you've said it is a very shameful thing. I mean the basis of lying is about presenting a false reality in someway, so it can feel like you're alone because the reality you've fabricated is different probably from your internal personal reality. I would share with them why you lie if you can and feel comfortable. It changes the perspective from "I'm a liar" to "I lie because I have low self esteem". It helps people understand why. Otherwise when people realise they have been lied to they feel like the victim. As you said, it is small steps. You're on the path.

I've been there. My first year was tough because of my compulsive lying. After realizing that I lie because I don't want to get in trouble or hurt someone's feelings, I was only beating myself up from being truly honest. Think of it this way, a truth today means no lies in the future and the stress will continue to lift off. I know easier said than done, but you owe it to yourself, to tell the truth from here on in.

Hi I also have been lying my whole life. I would love to know where it came from. I remember my first stories when I was like 6 maybe before that. I have now decided to stop and I'm really up and down with my mood. I feel so ashamed. I'm hoping to connect with people like you for support.

I hear ya. I feel like I'm almost unable to have friends b/c of the lies. But I need people like you guys, we have to support each other.

I tend to push people away, so I know how that is. I'm in the same spot. I need people I can really be honest with. It hurts that I feel I can't tell my partner the truth, but I feel it would destroy everything. I know at some point I may need to, but for now I am beginning my healing on my own. Isolation is a bummer. I've started opening up with my wife not sure if she'll start trusting me anytime soon but I have to be up front with her as much as possible. Communicating here with you all has made a difference in my outlook. I hope the best for each and everyone of us. Others have gone before us and changed their ways! We will also!!
