So I bit the bullet and spoke to a therapist.

We've had one appointment and I'm going to speak to her again on Saturday. I'm dreading it. My anxiety is through the roof and I can't sleep for the guilt.

I fear so many of my relationships, my marriage, are just beyond repair. I really fucked up big.

I've been a liar my whole life (attention, control, inability to say no? lack of self esteem and accomplishments? who knows at this point) but I am so willing to put the effort in to heal.

Does anyone know how I could ever begin to forgive myself when I feel so undeserving? Absolutely miserable at the moment.

I'd really love to hear your experiences and thoughts, and maybe connect with some people who can understand where I'm at.

Great job biting the bullet, sometimes that’s the toughest thing. Feeling guilty is natural and while it’s a difficult feeling to have, I suggest integrating it in part of your past. So everytime you think or feel something, think about it in the past tense. “I did that” “I was a liar”, “I am willing to change” it can be uncomfortable, but knowing the ability to feel guilt is part of the natural process.

Thank you so much. It was incredibly awkward and embarrassing but trying to avoid and outrun these feelings has ruined my life again and again.

I really appreciate the advice. I'm going to make the effort to make peace with my mistakes and shitty choices, and discuss them as part of the past because that's where they live now.

You are very welcome. I have stopped lying cold turkey, and I’m on week 2 as of today. It’s not easy, and the guilt at times can be unbearable but sometimes it’s human nature to do things out of our control. I had went through a dark and uncomfortable time due to my dad and my papa passing away and my way to cope was with lies (many white lies and embellishments but still lies none the less). When I first stopped, I felt extremely guilty, but I’m slowly getting over it knowing that what I did can’t change in the past but I can change the future and have the whole rest of my life in front of me.
