My wife calls me a low life because of my lies. Don’t blame her for her feelings. She’s the most honest person I know, hates lying at all. I have told so many lies to avoid conflict, made myself look better and especially avoiding arguments. Going to lose my marriage over this I need help. Have tried counseling and that doesn’t seem to help because I don’t put in effort.

I completely understand. I am in the same situation. I don't know why I lie over dumb little things but I'm working on stopping. I have started to learn how to just breathe before I answer. Let your wife give you a minute so you can control your answer

I'm right there with both of you and pathetically I'm 62. My wife has never lied to me about anything and I lie about anything to avoid a perceived conflict. It is so incredibly frustrating to not be able to man up and just tell the truth, good, bad or ugly. Because every time I don't it always comes back to haunt me and devastate my wife. Feel so incredibly weak and pathetic.

I can concur with you all. I am in counselling now and am joining a twelve step program to hopefully put a stop to my compulsive lying to those I care.the most about. My wife takes the brunt of my deception and has had enough (understandably). I have to get myself in check within a year or she is gone. I never imagined how much My lies have devastated those around me until I was confronted with the truth. I have created this hole in my life and now it is time to build the stairway out of the pit. I know we all have it in us to become the better humans we want to be and with each other for support it will make it easier.

I'm with you all. I continue to get better at telling the truth. I'm getting better at confessing right away, but I still slip up at times also. Don't give up!

I’m here for you all as I’m understanding about falling back into old habits. I just don’t know how to fix it on my family’s end. My husband is just about ready to give up on me.
