ok here is mine. starts with a rant but I WILL get to my topic question.
my rant is this..having read Michner's "Space" I was very impressed with the whole space program from inception to ..........well, the moon. then...........crap.
NASA was a great outfit doing amazing things as a private sector industry. then the government got hold of it and once we "won" the pecker measuring contest with the Soviets to put footprints on the moon..........kinda gave up. except of course for military and commercial enterprises. you know that we are currently incapable of getting our own people to the ISS? we need to hitch them a ride on a Soyuz.
we certainly have got some cool shit up there but , other than voyager....what ever happened to space exploration?
had we put a manufactory on the moon or in low earth orbit we could have been "jumpin off" from out there a long time ago. cheap. once ya get out of the gravity well there is not much need for heavy structure. if we were BUILDING our stuff obove the well the cost in material and fuel alone would have been astronomical and we , in my own opinion, could be way out there by now. shit......as it is the only thing we've even made it across the solar syatem with was an automatic piece of metal with a camera on iyt. very cool but.......I really think we have waaaayyyy undewrachieved in space. what was a fantastic program with immeasurable potential for the whole human race got grabbed by the powermongers pretty much all fucked up to the poiunt that I think the chances we missed are irretrievable .ok rant over(is) now question. is there extraterrestrial life? I mean something beyond living cells that are alive and may one day do something. I mean sentient beings other than ourselves somewhere in the great out there?

I agree lots of potential. I remember the first landing on the moon. I believe it was just about a national holiday.
Payed day off. I remember being glued to the television for the whole event.
Now it seems the news media wants to entertain us with car chases and such. That stuff is not for me.

That might be all well and good, except corporations are simply using what we know as a means to an end? They aren't looking outside of the box....or expanding our knowledge. No more growing and developing new agendas for study. They simply fill the demands as needed.
Are we content to ride the backs of the Russians?
I do believe there are other beings as great or greater than us. I'll even go one step further and say I think there are such things as UFO's. I just don't want any probing!! None of that......
