For those who didn't know.....I have two hens setting. One Hen got up off the nest too much so I know that her eggs are not going to hatch. But the thing with Hens....the don't stop setting until the eggs hatch, and the entire time they set, they don't eat or drink. The total amt. of day it takes is 28. Yes they can make it that long without eating or drinking.
So yesterday I stopped and got 3 baby chicks for the Hen, whose eggs I know are not going to hatch. I didn't know for sure if she would take them but she did!:)

Then my other Hen's eggs started hatching this morning! So far she has two little black ones:)

I'm so excited!! I love my chickens lol

Wahoo.... The farm is growing Dixie....
Glad Girl # 1 adopted her chicks, n glad Girl number 2 hatched her....
You must just about qualify for a Zoo soon..... te he....

I have two rabbits, 15 chickens, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 cows and 1 bird......I sure feel like a farm! lol

i've wanted to get chickens again since i had my daughter. crappy part of being poor and having to rent places. no chickens allowed. :(

Isn't it time for some sheep and a couple goats? I would love to visit your farm, but I don't go anywhere because of my 3 dogs and cat!

Animals sure give you a reason to get up when you feel like pulling the covers over your head and hiding.

You could try, but you'd have kittens on your head.

i would love sheep or alpaca for wool. goats for their terrible attitude and milk.. that makes the finest cheese and maybe even soap!!

Dixie that is so cute. Im glad the one chicken adopted the "new" chickadees, and that your other one is hatching. I would love to be on a farm right now instead of hot and humid south FL. I am so excited for you and your animal menagerie!! I bet they are just too cute for words! You'll have to put up some pics of them!!

O that's too bad you can't have chickens brokenyolk:( I have more fun with my chickens than you can imagine. I had one that would run up and jump in your hand and sit on your shoulder, unfortunately she disappeared. I have one that will jump for bread though:) I'm in TN.

Well, Only two babies from the second batch....so that's 5 new baby chicks total.

No Goats for me cherry...they get out , eat absolutely anything and climb on anything ....even cars......I would be shooting a goat first time I caught one on my car!
And I hate pigs!! Did you know that a pig will chase down a rabbit, kill it and eat it! And if they get out of their cage they will dig up all your flower bulbs.....O i hate pigs.....hope I don't offend anyone.

I'll try to post pics one day, but the mommas are pretty protective and keep the babies under their wings most of the time:)
