Hi..Nice to hear from you. Not sure about congrats. Still hankering, felt like getting a bite to eat with her today. We did that VERY well together. Can I call you Marilyn? Anyhow, Snow is crazy here up north. More coming in over the weekend. Basically doing errands is all I want to do out there. I did see a picture of a group of women who were a basketball team from NC who are all in there 70's. The local Arts group are going to show a short film next Wednesday. Tell me about your good health and maintenance program. That is a great picture of a strong woman although it is a little dark. Am I seeing it right?

Yes, you can call me Marilyn and you said about the weather "up north". How far up north?? I'm in Toronto Canada and have been in the "deep freeze" for two months now. Even had to skip church a couple of times because I can't be out when temp s colder than -15*C due to my asthma.

Oh My Goodness. I had given up on this site. Since you have been on that site, you probably know my status. I wish I had more positive news to say about this whole thing but it's a day to day thing and some are better than others. Well...I am from Salem MA, not quite as far north as Toronto for sure but we are setting some new records here with regard to snow and cold temps.

Yes, I saw that you are recently separated and finding the adjustment difficult. I had a "close call" about a month ago but the woman I was dating decided to go back to the gal who treated her so badly the year before. She quite nicely also told me that I was "unattractive", which is always a nice way to end things. She did want me to stay friends with her, which I could have managed but all she wanted to talk about was the troubles she was having with the "re-run" affair. I had to stop taking her calls. I'm a bit late coming out and not accustomed to a lot of the "drama" that goes on in many of these relationships. I thought that another woman might be more tuned in to how to treat me but so far, that hasn't been my experience. I talk more on this board as I've also found that it's difficult for face-to-face friends that I've met so far, to keep a confidence. The drama on some of the other boards is evidence of just how out of touch many are with their true feelings and what it is they really need. I'm pretty quiet most of the time but a good listener. Also very involved at church and senior's clubs in my area. Still see friends (straight) from my days in the work force though. Do you have a circle of friends to support you locally? Is there an LGBT Community to make friends ?? I was married to a man and have two adult sons & three grandkids. But don't see them often as they are all over the country. I'm only "out" to my youngest son, as he used to live with me. Take care & keep in touch....let me know how you're doing. It will be alright, you know and sooner than you think. (hug)

Hi Marilyn, Yes there is very nice group of people here in the GLBT community in Salem that I plan to hook up with when things settle down. Sorry it was only a "close call" for you. I'm sure someone is out there for you. I'm afraid drama can go with the territory and it is a good thing to avoid, too time consuming. I have 2 really close friends who have come back into my life even though I neglected them during my marriage. That goes with the territory too sometimes. I am wondering how and why you came to the belief that you are a lesbian. Is there a story there?

Oh yes, there is quite a story. As a teenager I hung out with the girls and didn't care much for guys...they creeped me out & liked to bully me. My only sexual experiences at that time were with a GF but our fathers were both in the Navy and we lost track of each other when our Dad's got transferred. That hurt! I was just settling into a new community & new bullies found me. Needless to say this drove me into my shell. Then a work-mate of my Dad's (8 years older than me) came to where I was baby-sitting to bring my homework books and he raped me. My Dad found out and forced me to marry him. Said I was now worthless trash. So, the next 7 years were basically forcible confinement, ongoing assaults and two children. I was so numbed out I never knew what to think because I didn't know what I was actually "feeling". I escaped by convincing him that he would be better off financially if I got a job and helped support the household. After a year, I had a support network of friends and a bit of money and I asked for a divorce. He said okay but he'd kill me and my kids if I tried to take them away. I got access (visitation) with the kids and had to pay him child support. (Ironic?) Second guy I married was very shy & quiet and I was in his work carpool. He had a few $$ and was gay. He needed a wife to advance his career. So, I married him. We did well financially but he knew he was living a lie and started to drink heavily to medicate himself. We divorced after 10 years together. I had a great career in the International Financial world but also started to drink heavily too. In the course of my "recovery", I had a spiritual awakening and realized what I truly was but couldn't come out because of work atmosphere. Was forced to retire at 45 due to a merger (got a settlement) and started to make a life for myself on my own terms. Only came out to a few people in the last few years because Church is my social network and the old dolls there might not be comfortable with that. Maybe they know but I am told that "You don't look like a lesbian"....WTF does a lesbian look like ?? So, I am still living two lives but each life is bigger than before and starting to overlap.Am attending a "gay friendly" church part of the month & my "old church" the other part. Am only out to my youngest son (49 yrs old) but no other family as they all live 3,500 miles away. So why bother. At least now I have peace of mind and joy in my heart as I know for sure I am who God made me to be.

Hi Marilyn, It sounds like you've had quite a bit of heart ache growing up and the rape and circumstances of your 1st marriage are horrible. How is the relationship with your boys? Second marriage not so fulfilling either. Crazy stuff Marilyn. I gotta tell ya, "I thought that another woman might be more tuned in with how to treat you" from my experience, it isn't nearly that simple. Do you have a glbt group near you? I am all done with the "closet". Life is too short, don't you think?

Hi there: I agree !! Life is way too short to spend hiding in the closet but some of the women I've met lately are pretty "batty". I joined a "gay friendly" church and there are tons of social activities but many too late in the evening for me. Taking the bus 1.5 hours after 9pm isn't too safe in a big city. The biggest problem I have at the moment is the number of women who say..."You don't look like a Lesbian". WTF! What does a lesbian look like? Most of the ones I've met don't "look like" lesbians either. I'm not markedly butch or a sexy femme either. Sort of down the middle of the road. Most of my friends are straight and they don't question my identity. It just never comes up. The gay women I meet all want to ask a lot of questions about why I dress the way I do, etc. I guess I still dress like a business woman; neat & tidy, casual but not scruffy, hair in a suitable style but not high-maintenance, no make up or jewellery except for a pair of plain gold stud earrings. No manicure/polish and just generally sporty and casual. Also participate in a couple of groups held at the local LGBT Community Centre but most of the women there are professionals or university students. I feel like their Grandmother. I get along well with my youngest son but my older son has chosen to distance himself from the whole family, including his own two daughters. Pretty sad. Might be nice to date someone but not into casual "hook-ups". Really looking for a BFF with benefits. Someone I can relate to on a mental/spiritual/emotional level. (There's a name for that but it escapes me.)
You are sooo right about "how other women might treat you". I suppose there are some bitches where ever we go. When did you know you were gay? Did you fall madly in love? Did you have/adopt kids?
