Hello all,
I am new to this website and just found out about this specific group. The last surgery i had was to complete the jpouch surgery for the treatment of ulcerative colitis.
One of the main reasons I came looking for support is my recovery has taken much longer than expected. The surgery was about 5 months ago and I am having a number of problems(I'll spare you the details unless you really want to know, then please ask).
I have been very inactive as a result of needing still be near a bathroom. My Dr is suspecting pouchitis or some kind of stricture at this point. To be honest, I am having a very hard time emotionally dealing not just with the way colitis has side tracked my life/surgery/pain etc, but also that my recovery seems to be so much slower than what I've heard is typical for others.
Has anyone else out there taken this long(5 months or longer to return to work/school) to recover? If not, just lie to me and say you have because I'm desperate. Only kidding about the lying part.

Yes indeed, recovery for me has taken several months also. I had surgery for jpouch put in almost twelve years ago now. Not sure what your criteria for recovery are but following that surgery I had a couple years of off and on pouchitis and plenty of overnight accidents. Then my recovery seemed to advance for about ten years where I had no more pouchitis and pretty good control overnight. To this day diet is a huge factor in the realm of overnight control. Last summer I had surgery again for a bowel obstruction and adhesions from the earlier surgery. It is now close to a year following surgery and recovery is still in progress. While jpouch surgery is marvelous in removing the diseased intestine, the possible complications and issues associated with having such a major surgery are something to deal with always, at least for me.

Just a brief update: turns out I'm one the people who continues to have ulcers/symptoms after the surgery. My recovery was taking so long because I wasn't really recovering from the disease, just dealing with the surgery recovery and symptoms together. In a small percentage of people this happens.
