Is anyone here responsible for hiring and staffing? I am having a rough time lately. People don't show up for interviews. They accept a job offer then email me a day or two before they're supposed to start and tell me something better came along.
Today, a girl who was super excited to start today was a No Call No Show for her first shift! I'm at my wits end!

Mom and I have errands to run this morning. She said we can get sushi for lunch though. I go back to work today. What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Quick, before the evil MONday gets here! Let's climb those mountains, dance in the meadows, dip our feet in the ocean....Okay, so most of us won't be doing any of That. Sadly. But today can still be a great day!The area behind our back fence is on an incline, with less than two feet on even ground at the top. I don't balance well enough for the incline, but our mower guy mows that...

I hope you feel better. You are doing nothing wrong. Perhaps the place you work needs to re-evaluate what it has to offer new employees.
Been in your shoes. Don't take it personally.
I think this just an overall pattern of the generation of young workers we have to deal with today. They are spoiled, lazy, selfish and entitled. They have no common courtesy or work ethic whatsoever. In addition, they usually have had one or two short-lived "starter jobs" straight out of college and think they know everything.
I had the misfortune of having to fill a social media position at my last job, so it obviously attracted a very young pool of candidates. Some of them were late to interviews with no call, apology or explanation. Many of them were freelancers who made no bones about the fact that they were looking for a job with a steady income and benefits to keep them afloat while the continued to pursue their preferred interests. One even flat-out stated that they could "make time for our job." While I guess I could have given them credit for their honesty, but it came across as arrogance.
The one we finally hired was OK, but very young and immature. He also had difficulty accepting constructive criticism and not having his way 100% of the time. It was very challenging and frustrating to supervise workers in that age bracket (late 20s-early 30s.)
The mistakes I made as a supervisor was to be too lax. I hate to be micromanaged, so I do not do that to those who report to me. I also tried to coach them instead of correcting them. That age needs a very firm (and strict) guiding hand.
I am really glad to be out of that particular rat-race.
Good luck to you!
