I didn't move to DE until after my failed third round. I never had any to freeze and none of my eggs ever made it to blast. I read a statistic somewhere that 75% of women with good eggs get pregnant if they give themselves three fresh tries. So even though the doctors told us after the first round that I would probably never get pregnant with my own eggs, I had to give myself those three tries. After the third failure, I began to become more at peace with the idea of DE. It took me about a year to wrap my head around it, but we finally went for it and now have a beautiful six month old son. I have no regrets other than the tons of money we spent. But when we finally moved on to DE, I knew it was the right decision.

Good luck with this next round, and if it isn't successful for you, the ladies here will provide you with a wealth of support as your work through your decision to use DE. I could not have done it without the help of this board.

hi. i never even did ivf with my own eggs bec the re told me i had a 9% chance of conceiving on my own and bec of my age and being perimenopausal there were no guarantees that if i became preggers that the baby would be normal. it was very upsetting initially but i made the decision quickly - 1-2 weeks that it was more important that i have a baby than that the baby have my genes. it was the best thing i ever could've done. i now have a normal, healthy 20 month old baby girl. no regrets.

never moved on to ivf bc I was told I only have a 20% chance of it being successful because my follicals were not responding well. So to me that wasn't a good enough % to spend $20,000.00 (we are paying it all out of pocket). Sometimes you do have to be realistic. I am really excited about the whole procedure with a DE :) it isn't the most ideal way to have a baby but I am so happy that it is an available option to consider and the doors are not closed to us. I was 27 when I was diagnosed with Diminished Ovarian Reserve. Our RE gave us a 3% chance using my own eggs and he was very thorough in his explanation. We didn't have the $10,000 to try with my own eggs, at 3% chance we figured we couldn't risk that chance at all. Our goal was to have a baby and egg donation is double to cost of regular IVF. I was devasted, but when I got home that same day I started researching the DE process. At first it seemed really wierd to us, but it didn't take long for me to know that this was what we were going to do. Having a child was more important to us than passing on my genes. We chose a donor who had recently donated to a couple that she knows. She also has 3 children of her own and we have a lot of similarities. I instantly felt this connection with her.

I am now 7 weeks pregnant, and we will go in for the viability scan on the 13th. We are just so excited that we finally got this chance when we thought it wasn't ever going to happen for us. Some women need to try using their own eggs so they don't have to ask what if. I have no regrets going onto using DE's, and I have so much love for this amazing woman who donated to us. Everyone is different about what it took for them to finally decide on DE's. For my husband and I, it was an easy decision.

I was 30 at the time that I started everything, did 5 IUI's and 4 IVF's with my own eggs over the years before moving to DE which I have a 2 yr old from and now 33 weeks with my second from DE. Hindsight I would have never done that many IUI's moved faster to IVF with my own eggs and probably only done max 3 times. I just to the point where I was maxed out on all the meds, did all the protocols and nothing was working, I could have kept going with my own but it didn't make sense to me if there was nothing to change med wise etc. It's a hard decision but I think once you make it you become at peace with it and then get excited again about the process.

I respond well to the meds, and our embryo quality is always good. On paper everything always looks good, but we just are not having success. Since I have PCOS, it is likely an egg issue. I know that we will love that baby so much, that it does not matter the genetics.
