Oh dear. I hope its not like that with my REs office. Probably is. I know they said the feds get involved. So Im sure its horrible. What are they asking? A bunch of personal invasive questioning?

I also went through an agency and only remember filling out one packet, getting it notarized and then sending it back to the agency by certified mail. I don't remember it being too bad though.

Don't know if laws changed now but apparently we need to get an attorney for the eggs. Agency Sid to cover ourselves so that donor won't sue us for her eggs back???? Or something like that!! It's a whole lot of paper, this process is so overwhelming Asti is let alone paperwork :-(

I just used my RE's office (they had their own in house donors) and I don't remember any paperwork at all, although I'm sure there had to be some. It must not have been that in depth. I didn't have to get an attorney, I know that for sure. Bummer me2007, that doesn't sound like much fun at all!

I think the laws vary by state. I remember my RE saying that they don't like to get involved with embryo adoption because the laws in Florida are so strict about it and there is a lot of legal preparation that takes place and it is a complete mess. Similarly, they don't encourage recipients using known donors (even for sperm) because the legal aspects are very muddy here and something about a 6-month wait/cooling off period (incase they change their mind??! Not sure). I have the impression that the agencies have more complicated paperwork than the RE clinics because the clinics are in control of the whole process (including keeping donors anonymous). Yuck. Not a fun part of the process, but hopefully something that only needs to be done once and get behind you!

We went throughout RE o no attorney needed. There was a lot of overwork but it was all electronic which made it easy. We live in Texas which is a state that is clear that we are the parents etc. donor has no rights to eggs once donated and embies created.

Cardinals, I just wanted to let you know that if you carry the child you ARE the biological mother, just not the genetic one. So when I take my DD to the doctor if they ask if she's my biological child I can honestly answer yes.

I think Illinois must have more paperwork than Arizona. I do remember signing a form stating rights to the eggs, embryos and child would be ours and I believe the RE office had our donor sign a similar form, but an attorney wasn't needed by us or the donor.

I'm using a donor at my RE's clinic and the paperwork isn't too much more involved then a regular IVF. I"m guessing that there is more paperwork involved when using an agency or third party
