About two years ago I was diagnosed with PCOS and told that I may never have kids, as upsetting as that was I planned to seak out other opinions and my dream of being a mother is still a top priority for me. My husband and I have been trying to concieve naturally for about 8 months with no success before we were referred to a fertility specialist. After some testing and bloodwork it came back that because of the PCOS I was not ovulating on my own. We did a round of clmoid with no results, so after a second round of clomid I had a viable egg. I was given hCG trigger shot to make me ovulate and was scheduled for IUI the following morning. My doctor came in and told us that my husbands sperm was very bad, low count (1 million) and low motility. He sent my husband for bloodwork immediately afterwards. We were upset but figured there could still be hope. After the two week wait I never got a period. I called the doctor and he said I would get one in the next fwew days, and once I do to start a new pack of medication, but this time it would be Femara. I asked about my husbands lab results and was told that the bloodwork and hormone levels were normal, but he reccomended that he stop smoking entirely. After taking the femara we went back for an ultrasound and I was told that I had a cyst from last cycle and some eggs that were growing but not yet ready. We were told to come back in five days. So we went back on Wednesday and recieved good news for once, I had 2 large eggs, one on each side, that were ready. I was given the hCG trigger shot again and told to come back in the morning with my husbands sample. I asked the doctor what the chances were of me getting pregnant this time around. He said that I am young (25), weve identified the problem with me not ovulation and medication is allowing me to be, and that overall he doesnt see a reason as to why I couldnt conceive and carry to full term. We arrived this morning and dropped off the sample. When I returned for the IUI my doctor said we needed to talk again. The sperm was worse this time than last. There was only 50 thousand viable sperm with low motality again. We dont understand why since the hormone test came back negative. My doctor said he thought about canceling the IUI since there is a slim to none chance that it will actually work. He said that I will know in two weeks again if it worked or not. If it was not sucessful he said he will not be continuing treatment with me until we go to a Nuerologist for my husband and figure out what is causing his low sperm count. I asked about IVF and was told with a sperm count this low we do not qualify. I came home and sobbed. I feel so completely alone and somewhat resent my husband even though this isnt his fault. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak the Nuerologist isnt seeing any fertility patients until this clears up since is non-emerceny practices. Has anyone else has a simular situation? I know many people that have gone through my doctor and love him so I dont know if we should find a second opinion or what we should do. I want a baby and a family so bad and feel as though I was just told today that a family wasnt in the cards for me. Please share your advice.
Thank you!
