No wonder you are overwhelmed - you have quite the cocktail of bloodwork and possibel surgery to go through. I've had loads of blood-work and one surgical procedure on my SIF quest. It was a laparoscopy done because Clomid didn't work for me either. It wasn't that bad - recovery is similar to a c-section (which I had experienced). Just take in one procedure at a time. Just think of each procedure as an exercise in getting closer to figuring out what's going on with your fertility. I'm close to the three year mark myself so empathise completely. Good luck!

I too went threw a ton of testing. I had red die shot threw my tubes to see if there were any blockages. Nothing then an exploritory surgery threw my belly button again nothing. I have uneplained secondary infertility. Clomid worked for my second child after 2 years of testing and trying. Then after 6 more years and a divorce I remarried and my husband wanted a child I said ok but its not easy for me so we did clomid for 5 months and it didn't work, We then tried injectables 1 shot everyday and a booster day before ovulation we did that for 4 months and now I have beautiful twin boys! I know its overwhelming and alot to go threw just look at the prize waiting at the other end. Its all sooo worth the work and you really learn to appreciate how special a child is. The Doctors know what they are doing just have faith.

Hi Meg, I remember being very overwhelmed with all the testing too. I had to go for transvaginal ultrasounds for about 9 days in a row too that first month. I never had the endo testing done, but I did some of the other tests you're mentioning like the sono-HSG. The sono was not really a big deal. They insert a catheter through your cervix under ultrasound which sounds like it would hurt but it really doesn't. They put saline into your uterus which I barely felt (maybe a tiny cramp). Takes 10 min.

I also had the hysterosalpingogram which is the dye test to check if your tubes are open (are you having that one?). It also involves a catheter through your cervix and they inject dye under x-ray so they can see your tubes. It was more uncomfortable than the sono but nothing severe. Looking at the monitor really grossed me out during that test for some reason, that made it worse!

My only advice is to get ready for a crazy month and don't get too nervous because they do these tests ALL the time. Oh, another piece of advice - don't be like me and expect them to come up with some clear explanation of why you're not PG yet! I was sooo disappointed when we ended up with an Unexplained diagnosis after ALL that testing. Apparently the Unexplained diagnosis is pretty common in couples with SIF.

All the medical procedures can be VERY overwhelming. I went through quite a bit of testing with two different RE's trying to find the cause of my recurrent miscarriages (one time they took 24 tubes of blood at once). You will feel like a lab rat some days, but it will all be worth it to help design the best possible treatment plan for you. I didn't get a diagnosis until after our agressive treatment plan was successful, so try not to get discouraged if you don't find a reason right away (easier said than done). As Lynda said, take it one procedure at a time and know that you are doing everything you can to complete your family. Going for it now is so much better than looking back with regrets if you don't try. Hang in there. You can do this! Take care.

Hmmm. Yeah, it's a lot. You don't ever get used to the stir-ups but you learn to accept them (like hormone self injections). I have done some of the tests you mentioned. One thought: not all docs agree that all of those tests are necessary. The post coital test, for example, was in my docs' opinion, pointless. What will they do with the results of that test? (always a good question to ask, by the way.) And my doc did not agree with laps unless there was very very good evidence that it was needed. Anyway, just some thoughts. Yeah I would work your way from the least invasive to the most invasive. Tell them you want to hold of the laproscopy for a few months until you can see the results of the other tests. Maybe they will tell you what is wrong and you won't need the lap.
