Infertility, Secondary Support Group
"Secondary infertility" is difficulty conceiving after already having conceived and carried a normal pregnancy. Apart from various medical conditions (e.g. hormonal), this may come as a result of age and stress felt to provide a sibling for their first child.

When should you be checked for infertility. At what point do you decide that the natural methods you are trying are not working? Is there a time frame?

I WAS CHECKED FOR INFERTILITY AFTER ABOUT 2 YEARS OF REALLY TRYING. MY OB CHECKED ME AND THEN REFERRED ME TO A SPECIALIST.AS FAR AS A TIME FRAME I DON'T THINK THERE IS REALLY ONE I FEEL WHEN YOU THINK IT'S TIME THEN IT IS TIME.

We had only been trying for about 6 months when we decided something was wrong. What tipped us off was that my periods werent starting on their own and I had to take medicine for 4 months to start my period each month. At that point, my OB started monitoring if I was ovulating each month and we found out that I wans't. We then started the fertility meds. Just listen to your body and if you have any questions, definitely bring them up with your dr. Good luck!

they say under 35, trying naturally for a year and over 35 trying for at least 6 months.

A YEAR! That is a long time... I hear on this site how so many woman tried for years and years. How do you do that? I mean I don't even want to know it must be so hard! How do you still enjoy things when it is all about when the fertile egg drops? Does that really mean that every month of every year they try? That just is so overwhelming to me.

I've been trying for 8 years now. It is emotionally draining.

8 years. I don't know how you do that! It makes me want to cry. I am so very sorry... It is amazing how strong you are through it all though. I"m very impressed. Do you live every months like you did when you first started trying? Or do you let a couple of months go here and there?

We tried for almost 6 years for our 2nd baby. We would skip some months out as it just became too like clock work and planned. And then i finally fell PG, only to MC at 21wks in Sep07. So feel absolutely gutted now. But have not given up, what will be will be. Things happen for a reason, not sure the reason, butt hey do. I think the more you try and stress about it it wont happen. I had totally given up and got rid of all the baby things I had from my DD. I just wish us all some luck....

We tried for 14 months. I knew from about 8 months in that something was wrong. Ours is male factor so I could not physically feel something, but I just knew deep down that something was not right. Once we hit the 12 month mark I made an appointment with my Gyno and he sent in an order to have my dh tested. As far as the time frame, it depends on your age and when you are ready too.

We always try every month, but sometimes we just try on our own by timing things. Sometimes we get help from our doctor. It has been awhile since we have done any IUI's or clomid, but I want to take a real aggressive approach this next round. Any suggestions?
