Infertility, Secondary Support Group
"Secondary infertility" is difficulty conceiving after already having conceived and carried a normal pregnancy. Apart from various medical conditions (e.g. hormonal), this may come as a result of age and stress felt to provide a sibling for their first child.

Hello everyone, I am new to this group, but not new to DailyStrength. Lately, I have met a lot of supportive people so I decided to just join this group and share my story. I have had fertility issues for years that stem from fibroids and endometriosis. I had a miscarriage many years ago while I was in college. Years later, I found out that I had massive fibroids and most doctors told me that conceiving a child would be challenging if not impossible. Well, two years ago, I became pregnant and I delivered a healthy baby boy that fall! My son has been my biggest blessing ever. I love being a mom no matter what we have to go through. He's stuck with me :). Right after his birth via C-section, I had to have a uterine fibroid embolization in order to save my life, stop the severe bleeding, and save my uterus. The UFE has left me with virtually no periods, I've only had two this year, so I don't think I ovulate that much either.
My current OB/GYN says that a second baby is unlikely, but there may be a slight chance. She told me that I need to be actively having a lot of sex to see if conception is possible, even though it's probably not. Well, I broke up with my ex, so sex is not possible right now since I'm no longer in a relationship! I've met other wmen who are going through similar struggles. I just wanted to really say that this has been very painful for me, emotionally and physically, and I know that is has for many of you as well. I'm 34, and I would like to give my son a sibling someday sooner rather than later, but I'm unable to do that because for one, my body won't let me it seems, and two, I don't have anyone to have a family with at the moment. My ex kept wondering why we weren't getting pregnant and I had already told him about my fertility issues. I just feel like I really disappointed him because I know how badly he wants his own biological child. I just feel guilty at this point and I feel like he, or any man for that matter, deserves to have their own child if they want to have one. I know that there are other ways to have children, but IVF is expensive and not something I think I'd want to do even if I had the money. I don't think I would be comfortable having embryos put inside of me not knowing if any of them would survive or possibly ending up with too many children resulting in multiples, but I think that it can be a great choice for those that are interested in it. A few people have mentioned adoption to me, but I heard that U.S. adoption policies (and fees) are no walk in the park. And then there is the option of surrogacy, but I'm not sure I would be completely comfortable with that. So if I decide in a couple of years that I really want to go ahead with having another child, I guess I am conflicted on how to do so if I can't conceive naturally.
How do some of you feel about IVF, adoption, fostering children, or surrogacy???
Do any of you experience the same emotions of feeling guilty like you disappointed your husband or partner due to your fertility issues???
