Infertility, Secondary Support Group

"Secondary infertility" is difficulty conceiving after already having conceived and carried a normal pregnancy. Apart from various medical conditions (e.g. hormonal), this may come as a result of age and stress felt to provide a sibling for their first child.

Hi all,

If I don't get my natural BFP next week we are heading for IVF. I'm 41 in 2 days and have one blocked tube. Managed to get pregnant despite that twice this year but lost both in the last 3 months.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good book about IVF? I've been reading up about it on the internet but I would like to have an expert guide to read prior to my appointment on the 22nd July.

I live in France so could probably find one here but they would most likely be in French. I'll get one of those anyway as I"ll need to understand the lingo in French but I would really like to get a really good IVF reference book to perhaps find some of the answers to my many millions of questions.

Any info most appreciated!

Have you tried acupuncture? I have read a couple but the Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis is great.

No, I haven't actually but I'm starting to pick up some interest in this! I even googled acupuncturists in my area yesterday. There are literally hundreds!!!!
How would I go about finding one that helps with fertility issues?

I would suggest that you get a uterine biopsy the cycle before doing IVF your chances of success double! I did 4 failed IVF before the biopsy and had success with IVF #5 after having it done.I found the biopsy study online at a site called Israel21 (the study was done in Israel).

On the subject of books I would recommend Conquering Infertility by Alice Domar. My infertility counselor gave it to me and I found it very helpful.

You should ask your dr if they can recommend an acupuncturist.

OMG! This is getting so complicated. I have one friend on another site telling me that if my hormones are not balanced by taking chinese herbs before the IVF, then it won't work and now I have to ask for a uterine biopsy beforehand! Can't they just press the button and be done with it LOL!!!
But seriously, what would a uterine biopsy show that countless US's and an HSG, blood work etc wouldn't show? Is there another more common name for a U biopsy? I've never heard of this??
All this info is making me start to panic slightly because if the truth be known, IVF is my last chance and I feel if I don't get myself physically and mentally ready for it, then it's doomed from the beginning. I've been seeing my DR for months now and have been poked and prodded constantly over that time. I just want to get my first appointment over and done with then get started.
If you can give me more info about U biopsy then that would be great...!

The benefit of the biopsy is not in what testing the sample shows.
The biopsy itself doubles your chances of success. The theory is that the injury caused by the biopsy makes the lining of the uterus more receptive to implantation.

Also many acupuncturists offer chineese herbs too.
