"Secondary infertility" is difficulty conceiving after already having conceived and carried a normal pregnancy. Apart from various medical conditions (e.g. hormonal), this may come as a result of age and stress felt to provide a sibling for their first child.

Something has been bugging me for a couple of weeks now and it's starting to annoy me :)
My history: I have a 10 year old daughter conceived naturally. In march 10, I had a missed MC and a d&c. In April, following a D&C, I found out that my left tube is blocked.
My Dr is now saying to go straight to IVF and due to the waiting list, this could take months and months.
So my question is, why, in the meantime while we are waiting, can they not try clomid??? I still have one good ovary and tube, right? And I did conceive naturally at the beginning of this year.
We are so hoping and trying not to have to do IVF, it just seems so "last resort" and radical, given that I already got pregnant a few months ago.
Has anyone in the same situation been given clomid whilst waiting?
For info, the blocked tube and my age is the only reason that they are going straight to IVF - all other tests including DH are normal - but I feel that I'm wasting precious eggs and time by having to wait for IVF when there is a drug there that could help stimulate the right ovary and perhaps result in conception coming from the right tube! I may be wrong, but it would just seem like a good idea to try this rather and use IVF as a last resort!

My infertility specialist put me on Clomid in February to help stimulate my left side. They wanted to maximize my ovulation. ( I was already ovulating on my own. but they wanted my "really good: left side to produce follicles to give us the best chance to conceive. We did 2 rounds on the low dose of 50mg which resulted in my right side developing follicles. So in April they upped the dose to 100mg and finally my left side was stimulated and was producing follicles. On Mother's Day I got a BFP and have my first US scheduled for this Thursday.
So I would ask your doctor about Clomid, the cost of the drug is cheap compared to IVF. Good luck with everything.
The last two cycles, I have ovulated, so it's coming from somewhere! Not sure which side though but surely it would be a better idea to have 3 eggs coming out of the good side rather than chance having one one from the bad side?
I'm going to bring this up with her on Friday and see what she says. I just hope that she listens or comes up with a REALLY good excuse to not do it!!

I have made an appointment with my gynecologist on Friday morning. She was supposed to call me back last week once she had shown our test results to her boss who will then decide the next course of action (IVF) She didn't call me so now I'm going in a little furious that she didn't call back and I'm going to ask her to put me on clomid next cycle and see what happens. i'm not sure what her reaction will be but until now she has been very helpful and caring so perhaps I can persuade her to do this while we wait for a first appointment at the IVF place and hope that we never ever have to go there :)
