"Secondary infertility" is difficulty conceiving after already having conceived and carried a normal pregnancy. Apart from various medical conditions (e.g. hormonal), this may come as a result of age and stress felt to provide a sibling for their first child.

3, 10 & 22 day testing for SIF investigation..

Hi,

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's been through this test.
Day 3 - hormone levels testing (FSH, estradiol, LH, AMH)...
Day 10 - HSG
Day 22 - pelvic u/s
In beween those days (when AF is gone) vaginal swab (to check for infection, bacteria)

I got the 3 day test yesterday and have no idea if my levels are normal or not. Or what normal levels are for that matter.

For info, I'm 40 (41 in June) trying for 8 years, no medical intervention and misscarried 6th March, followed by d&c.
I understand what these tests are for. I would be glad to hear of your experiences!

I have had the HSG and pelvic ultrasounds. The HSG checks for any blockage in your tubes and checks for uterine fibroids. I have had 2 HSG's (1 before I got pregnant with my son and the second one was after my etopic) and I will be honest with you, the first one was awful, the second was not so bad.
You typically will be told to take either Tylenol or Motrin the morning of...I reccommend it. That is to help with the cramping that you experiance during and sometimes after the procedure. The first one I had done was long, and not comfortable. My husband wasn't allowed in the room (its usually done in radiology). the second one, was faster and my husband was allowed in with me the whole time. But don't get worried, because not all woman have the same experiance as me.

I have had a couple of pelvic U/S and mostly they are not that bad. It's a little uncomfortable, but not bad. I have to have one done every month I am on Clomid to check for my response to the meds. They are usually pretty quick.

Thanks for the info! I am bracing myself for an uncomfortable afternoon but fingers crossed it's not too bad. I've heard it can unblock your tubes even if that's not the main reason fir doing the exam in the first place. So if any good can come from it, all the better!
