Hello everyone
I am a new member and came across this site accidentally and read a comment I wanted to respond to which I haven't done yet.
I have had alternating IBS for many years and lately I have mostly IBS-C with an occasional IBS-D.
Pain and inconvenience is bad enough with IBS, but add the inability to go to the bathroom in a public bathroom with other people.
My biggest problem that makes me want to die is my work situation. We moved to a new building a year ago and this building has extremely high traffic bathrooms. I have some anxiety issues that prevent me from being comfortable enough to go. I would need to drive somewhere like a gas station that has a private locking bathroom nearby to go.
A lot of my days at work I am in a lot of pain in the morning since usually I would need to go to the bathroom around the time I have been at work for 2-4 hours. My body is use to not going till i get off from work but half the time I am in pain in the morning. If there were a private locking bathroom or if I worked from home this would save me from a lot of pain.
Is there anyone out there that has the same problem? I do not know what to do. I hate living like this and wish I can find an answer. I can't quit my job and even if I did I may be in the same boat at a new company.

I understand this as I have a few issues around this. I spend too much time in the bathroom and I honestly like and need privacy. I will not go in public though unless I was dying in pain or something. I carry gas x and Imodium sometimes if I really dont want to go. But anyway I feel that. I also need a private bathroom. I dont like hearing anyone go to the bathroom even number one. I will get panic attacks and if I know someone can hear me. I dont know how comfortable you are about this but can you try running water if it's not an automatic? Many people actually do this and let someone know if they can not turn it off and need the privacy. I know many people dont want to waste water but I agree with my counselor in you do what works. You are not hitting anyone doing tricks and tips to make life better and easier for you :). You could try putting music on in a phone. Also many will flush a few times to distract any sounds if that's what you want kept private. I suffer from bad ibs but I am lucky I can go a long time even if I have to go but mostly my pains get so bad I cant function even if I went. Im soo sorry! Maybe looking in to an options for an at home job isn't a bad idea? Not sure what line of work your interested in but I hope you get some relief!

Sorry I meant your not hurting anyone doing what works! Have you seen a Dietician? A good gi doctor? I know immodium helps some. I read exercise helps some. I saw an allergist. They can figure out food allergies. No guarantee to help but im giving it a try.
