I do understand that people fake things so they can get on it or they aren't severe enough. What bothers me is that when you can't even do your old job because of how hard it is to hear and places won't work with you at times to get the equipment you need, it really makes it hard to do.

totally understand. Good news the longer they take they have to pay back that money. I have heard so many stories about SSI and SSD this yr that I am so fed up with the whole works. My daughter was born with liver trouble, she was very sick and doctors didnt think she wld make it. They put her on SSI which she stayed for eight years. This yr they took her off of it. She hassnt had a liver transplant (future) but has had a surgery on her liver which gave her cirrohsis. Now that is worsening. But they said she was better. They kicked her off now. BUT my neighboor is a fall down alcoholic with cirroshis and he gets a check every month and buys his drink.
Sorry got side tracked, keep it up and stay with it. If you have to get a lawyer. I KNOW money BUT a SS lawyer is free or they take a SMALL amount of money they win from the past money you wld have already gotten. Fight it and keep it up. Let us know how things are going. Miss ya deafwolf.

BOY DO I UNDERSTAND ABOUT TRYING TO GET THAT DISABILITY! IT TOOK ME 5 YEARS OF TRYING AND APPEALING AND THEN I ENDED UP MOVING TO ANOTHER STATE BEFORE MINE FINALLY WENT THROUGH. WHEN I WAS IN FORT WAYNE IN. I ONLY HAD TO APPLY ONCE AND IT WENT RIGHT THROUGH. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS BECAUSE INDIANA IS ONE OF THE ONLY STATES THAT IS STILL OPERATING IN THE BLACK. ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT BY THE TIME I MADE THAT MOVE THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS TOO LATE FOR SSD, ALL I WAS ABLE TO GET WAS SSI AND IT DOESN'T PAY AS MUCH. THEY SAID THAT SSD IS LIKE AN INSURANCE AND IF YOU ARE NOT WORKING FOR MORE THAN 3 YEARS OR SO THE OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY FOR IT EXPIRES, WHERE SSI IS A SUPPLEMENTAL INCOME SOURCE PROVIDED BY THE GOVERNMENT. ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ENOUGH TO LIVE ON. THEY GET YOU COMING AND GOING WHEN YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE GOVERNMENT.

I got ssi 30 years ago. It was somewhat hard to get back then but not like now adays. It didn't take as long but the requirements were still as bad. proven tests galore, proven Dr.s statements galore & yes, a lawyer or someone to represent you. As starbright said, you do receive backpay from the time you filed until the time you are accepted. As crazyladydeb said, it's not enough to live on. Do you have medicare or medicaid? You can get those without being on disability.

Thank you everyone, it's just been one thing after another lately and glad I have support. I was stupid and didn't get a lawyer until after the court hearing.
The problem I have is I won't get back pay from the time I filed, they are saying because it's in appeals it will go back to my court case. I'm arout ready to say duck it and ask if a new file would just be easier. They said it could take the appeals court 30 months to rule.

I FIRST APPLIED FOR MINE HERE IN KY IN 2005 THE WORKER I TALKED TO SAID I SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM GETTING IT TO GO THROUGH BUT IT WAS DENIED ANYWAY. I TRIED GOING BACK TO WORK, BUT WAS ONLY ABOUT TO GET PART TIME WORK AND THEN NOT EVEN THAT. SO IN 2006 I TRIED AGAIN FOR THE DISABILITY. I HIRED A LAW FIRM RIGHT OFF AND THEY TOOK CARE OF ALL THE PAPER WORK FOR ME, AND SAID IT SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. THE DOCS THE SOCIAL SECURITY DPT. SENT ME TO WERE A JOKE! THEY ONLY SAW ME FOR 5 MINUTES EACH AND SENT IN THEIR REPORTS. IT TOOK THEM TWO YEARS TO DECIDE TO DENY IT. THE LAWYERS FILED AN APPEAL FOR ME. AND THAT TOOK ANOTHER YEAR BUT WAS DENIED AGAIN. THE LAWYERS TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO START OVER AGAIN FROM SCRATCH AND THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REPRESENT ME. SO SINCE MY LIVING ARRANGEMENTS HAD TO CHANGE ANYWAY, I PACKED UP MY STUFF AND WENT TO LIVE WITH MY BROTHER IN FORT WAYNE. UP THERE I DIDN'T NEED A LAWYER, SOCIAL SECURITY DEPARTMENT SENT ME TO THEIR DOCTORS AND THEY DID A GOOD THOROUGH EXAM THIS TIME. MY CLAIM WENT THROUGH IN ONLY THREE MONTHS. IN MICHIGAN I KNEW A GUY THAT GOT SSD TO GO THROUGH THE FIRST TIME. HE WAS HURT ON THE JOB, BUT WAS ONLY LAID UP FOR A FEW WEEKS, HE GOT THE SSD AFTER HIRING A LAWYER. HE WENT INTO THE COURT ROOM IN A WHEEL CHAIR, HAD NO A NECK BRACE AND THE WHOLE NINE YARDS. WHEN THE JUDGE SAID HE WAS APPROVED, HE STOOD UP, TOOK OFF THE NECK BRACE AND WALKED OUT OF THE COURT ROOM. THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REVOKED, BUT THEY LET IT STAND AND HE IS STILL ON SSD TODAY. THAT KIND OF STUFF GOES ON ALL THE TIME AND THAT IS WHY IT IS SO HARD FOR THOSE OF US WHO REALLY NEED IT. MAKES ME REALLY ANGRY BUT NOT MUCH CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT.

I heard about nam vet who was a quadraplegic who had fought for 5 yrs & many hearings & denials,
he finaly got his ssd after he talked to a lawyer who told him to play like he was a mental case .
after 5 yrs a suffering/waiting/ all the paperwork n repeated doc visits he finaly got his ssd by actin like
he had mental disabilitys . even though physicaly he was unable to do any type a physical labor.

NOW THAT MAKES ME WANT TO CUSS!! HE SHLDNT HAVE HAD TO GO THRU THAT

AND YET SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T REALLY NEED IT CAN GET IT THE FIRST TIME THROUGH. MAKES ME MAD BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO?

I HAVE A FRIEND HERE WHO HELPED HER SON GET HIS SSD. HE HAD BEEN DENIED SEVERAL TIMES, AND IT FINALLY WENT TO COURT AND SHE WENT IN WITH HIM AND REALLY LAID INTO THE JUDGE. SHE IS A RETIRED NURSE AND HAS SEEN MANY CASES OF PEOPLE GETTING SSD BECAUSE THEY CLAIM TO HAVE AN ADDICTION TO POT, OR BEER. THEY WERE IN AND OUT OF REHAB WHERE SHE HAD TO TAKE CARE OF THEM AND THEY WOULD LAUGH AND JOKE AROUND ABOUT HOW THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO WORK, JUST STAY HIGH OR DRUNK AND LET THE GOVERNMENT TAKE CARE OF THEM. SHE TOLD THE JUDGE THAT IF THOSE DEADBEATS COULD QUALIFY AND GET SSD, THEN SOMEONE LIKE HER SON WHO WANTED TO WORK BUT WAS UNABLE TO, SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FIGHT AND BEG TO GET IT. NOT SURE WHAT ALL ELSE SHE SAID TO HIM, BUT IT WORKED. THE JUDGE GAVE HER SON THE SSD.

THE SYSTEM WE LIVE IN IS SO CORRUPT ITS RIDICULOUS.
