I have to get hearing aids soon I have significant hearing loss in both ears can't hear high frequencies I am waiting for hearing USA to call me for an appointment for my hearing aid eveluation test. I have already been to an ear nose and throat specialist and had my hearing tested to determine that i need a hearing aid one for each ear. I have never used a hearing aid before and it would be nice to get some support from other people that are hearing impaired .

Hi my name is Renora. I found out I was 20% in both ears the summer before my tenth grade year, One year later I found out I was almost 60% I wear two hearing aids one in each ear. The first day I wore them I heard noses I never knew existed. The first few days will be uncomfortable because you are not use to wearing something in your ear like that, but at the same time you will "force " yourself to wear them because you can finally hear. I am still consider hearing impaired even tho my percentage is so high. I hope you enjoy the world of hearing even with your hearing aids as much as I do.

I have had hearing issues most of my life due to having chicken pox and measles at the same time. The fever burnt the inner ear nerve. I am an adult now and fought my way thru school. Im an old married lady and am totally deaf in right ear now and have only 2% hearing WITH aid in left ear. Without I am deaf. I decided early on that lip reading was best for me. Then later did learn sign language. Anyone know that??

Hello! I have been totally deaf since the age of 10 from a bout with the measles. I was in a coma and to save my life the doctor used Sulfa which was new at the time. So we are not sure exactly what caused my hearing loss, the measles and the high fever or the sulfa. I worked with deaf students most of my adult life so am pretty knowledgable about deafness and would love to chat!

I heard recently that "over the counter" hearing aids are just as good as the more expensive doctor prescribed ones!
