Hi, my name.is brandie. I am 22 and just got diagnosed with hd. My dad has it and his dad had it too so I knew I was at risk. Ive been with my boyfriend for three years and I thought we were both ready to go through with me being tested. Honestly, I feel ok. I know whats coming, and I'm not afraid. But my boyfriend on the other hand has become depressed. He looks at it like his life is being cut short too, which I get it. We haven't been together for the longest time but since I talked about testing he's promised to be my caretaker, my everything, until the disease ends and i am gone. I wouldn't mind if he wanted to be with somebody else, I don't want to be the reason he is miserable. Watching my dad go through it was the hardest part of my life so far. If he could find a way to feel happy with me again I'd love to stay together. But watching him be so sad...and knowing its because of me, I just don't know what to say or do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
My Mom had it....we also think my Gram had it too...not sure about both Grandpas since they both died from other things first...plus they didn't get tested.
It is hard to watch our loved ones go through the thoughts of their and your wondering what is next....
To be a loved one watching the decline is hard too....so the fact that you are giving him the choice to leave might be confusing to him as well....wondering if you want him to leave at all.
I saw how my Dad was with my Mom and in the end he was the only one there at the time...he sent us away.
