I think it's the law of attraction, says to write down the things you are looking for in a mate. Do not write any negatives, just positive things you would like. Looks aren't that important to me, but caring about how they look, (not sloppy) is important. My husband was thin, but so was I when we were dating. I think we all want honest, faithful and funny. The number 1 thing I look for is attitude. If they start complaining about things too early on, it's a big NO. So positive attitude and good health, and active too.

Well I would have to say my list is a bit long. He must be a man of faith, confident without being arrogant, have a beautiful smile and not be afraid to use it, caring/loving eyes, faithful and honest to a fault, at minimum of 5' 9", clean and well groomed, compassionate and romantic, spontaneuous, must love music, physically fit, know how to treat a woman like a lady! I think that is all but I am sure I could come up with a few more. Probably not very realistic but what the heck, why not go for it! LOL

I think we all focus on different aspects of a person. I literally see a person from the inside so outward looks are not as important....to me it's like the wrapping on a gift. If the gift is beautiful...I see beauty in the wrapping too. It radiates from within for me.

I want to know what is inside. Of course I want the person to care about themselves....but I more care if the person is honest and caring and has inner strength and is doing something in this world that is making this world a better place.

My list is actually long...but it is more like they are loving, and caring and have a sense of humor and love their family and love people and love life, and above all else they are nice. Someone with a smile and kind eyes will get me to turn my head.

If someone looks down on the store clerk or waitress, (that is the biggest deal breaker for me).

Of course I too have my limits...I could not be with someone with more tatoos than skin, or someone who smokes or drinks heavily.

I guess growing up in the country and also on a farm makes me appreciate someone who happens to not be (groomed perfectly), because usually that means they are in the middle of their work day around here. I love a hard working man! I have to tell you that those men that get all sweaty and dirty during the day.....sure can clean up nice when they get home....

Ladies, I appreciate all your comments. However, my intent was to FOCUS just a moment on looks. The reason is that on these singles sites, they show all your "matches" pictures. I skim over the 50 or so faces and automatically screen out all the ones with facial hair. I just am not interested in being with (especially closely) a man with facial hair. I'd really like to hear from the GUYS about what they like or don't like in appearance!

Well, as most of you know, I met my new husband on line. I contacted him purely on a whim because I thought he was cute. A head full of snow white hair, hazel eyes and a smile that was a little boyish and a whole lot sexy. (Good thing he never sees what I post here! He would have a fit.)

I didn't do the dating sites...fell in love with Joe sight unseen right here on DS...had no idea what he looked like...guess I'm one of the few that really don't look at the outside. :) But I will admit to having a thing for a man with a beard, so long as it is well trimmed and not shaggy, scraggly, unkempt-looking. I like the way it tickles. ;)

well, I found that all the men that I really even considered on the dating sites had silver hair (which my mike had ever since he was 30)...and then i realized I did have a "type"...so for me the silver hair did it...I probably wasn't going to go for someone who didn't have hair or thinning hair...and Rob has a beautiful head of thick silver hair! Lucky me! but when it all comes down to it, the physical attraction can only really be wonderful when the personality matches! I didn't ever think I'd be going out with someone who is almost a foot taller than me, but it's very cool!

Well, I have had almost zero dating experience and married the only two guys I dated seriously. So can't say I have much to offer but my 2 cents:
My two men were opposites physically - the first 6'4", 220lbs, thick brown hair, green eyes. The second 5'8", 175lbs, thinning sandy hair w/ some gray, blue eyes.
But I have found I really appreciate a well-groomed man, clean shaven, neat hair, good hygiene. I think those are the most important aspects of looks. I like the rugged look too, but not the tough guy look.

Age does not mean lifespan......my husband was 8 1/2 years younger than I am....and passed on 3 years ago. My sister's husband was 20 years older. She's gone and he's still living.

okay... I am going to add my 2 cents. I have always liked thin men.. lots of beautiful (full head) of hair. My "someone new" is 30 pounds over weight... but as a "good cook" I can fix that... LOL.. he has lost 18 pounds since he met me and is happy about that.. me too! John has a full head of hair (which is attractive to me)... but you know what? Laughter, conversation, shared interests, humor, fun, .... it all adds up to so much more than looks....
