Had new guy and his daughter over for Easter dinner last night, with all my kids and grandkids and late husband's best friend. It went very well. Everybody got along. My daughter was stand offish. Overall, everybody had a great time. Late husband's best friend texted me afterward and told me it was good to see me smile. New guy told me a couple of nights ago that he noticed I was smiling more in more recent pics on Facebook.
I feel so relieved that's over and it went well. I really enjoyed his daughter. She seemed to really like me and my family.

That's great news, Mel. I often wondered how'd things go for me with a blended family situation.
Less than a year after mom died, dad started dating, then insisted both families get together for a Christmas dinner... Of Chinese food :P Her family smoked heavily, and I'm very allergic. My sister was able to duck out early - using her kids as an excuse... My husband and I were stuck there....it was a disaster. It's made me fearful of getting involved with anyone who has adult kids.
So happy to hear that your celebration went so well! Gives me hope that things could go well for me too.

That's great Mel! The woman I am seeing met Dina's family last month. I'm still very close with them so I knew it would happen at some point. My daughter's birthday party was coming up so that was looking like it would be the first time. Dina's mother asked if we could set something up before that as she didn't want that to be the first time. So we met for brunch a couple weeks before the party. It went well. Not that I expected anything less but it was still a relief. I know it is still strange for Dina's family but they all thought she was very nice. And I think it's clear to them that my daughter likes her very much (she's 5) since she talks about her regularly. She's also very good to/with my daughter, which is clear to everyone, so I'm sure that is very reassuring to them.

I'm with Art now for almost 4 years. His youngest is 19 and about to go into military service. I won't say that it was easy, but we set down rules and negotiated. I now love him as my own so it was worth it. His older children are 29 and 36. Thankfully they have accepted me and my children accept him. Blended families need love and understanding. With that said it's worth the effort. Sharon

So glad your holiday went well with everyone meeting. And it sure does FEEL good to smile again. So nice of people to notice. I remember being with my new guy and my sister commenting that I didn't seem so sad anymore. I hadn't really taken stock of it before then, but realized I wasn't so sad anymore. Happy to hear you are doing well, too.
