The death of a spouse may seem more difficult than any other close family member. My experience is that it just uncovers more false beliefs and practices than any other death.
Here are some examples of my own false beliefs.
We will grow old together.
I can't be alone/ single.
He was too young to die.
It's unfair.
I won't be as good of a person.
There's tomorrow.
Every false belief has a truth to be discovered. That has helped me. Life is still here, waiting to be lived.
I will see Mike again. We won't be married. We will be in Heaven.
Life is very fair. So is death.
I have to love myself now. I wish I would have done that all along, I would be a better person.
I can be single; alone. I can date and I can end bad relationships.
Tomorrow is not good enough. Make the most of each moment.

That was a great list. I do have to agree to disagree about life being fair :). It isn't, I guess you are saying don't expect life to be fair is the truth you discovered :)
I like your last line 'Make the most of each moment'. It takes some movement to where you you see that and embrace it.
