How long did your old love last? Till one person died and then beyond. Right? That's how long new love can last. I've been with Bill for 6 years now. While I still miss and love my Tim, when I look at my 72 year old "new" love: skinny, balding, big nose and all, my heart still goes pitty pat. Congrats!

Mel, I think that we love differently now than we did before our loss. We want to give all and more because we maybe feel that we did not give enough to our lost love one. I hope that when I do get in a new relationship that I can give 100% plus. I will alway want to be at my best and let them know daily how I feel so I will never regret not being the best person I can be for them.

I always thought that I found my mate when I married my husband. After 40 years our love was stronger than ever. I met Art 4 years later and our love will never be extinguished. I agree i never had it diminish with my late husband. The man i have been seeing over 2 years now i am always always excited to see him, a glance, a phone call, a text. I think when people click they just do and why does it have to end or have a time limit. Even after the infatuation period and things become more comfortable, the excitement and attraction is stronger in a different way

Interesting. Dating a lady that was not at all I was normally attractive to. Yet she makes me feel so happy. I hope it's not because I felt so down for three years while Jo was sick? For now I'll take all the happiness I can get.

I suppose your question posed here because you have concerns……. you probably cognizant that the infatuation phase is the nice overture. ahhh………the excitement, the passion, the butterflies It is a promise, a possibility that a bond can develop, or …..it becomes a memory.
It all depends whether there are shared values which are strong enough to deepen the relationship to a mature feeling, a feeling strong enough to carry us over the life’s rough road.
Infatuation is fun, but it lacks the maturity and depth needed to tackle the realities of life.
A deep, quiet love is lasting; infatuation is short-lived

Mel, glad you are doing well. It almost seems that I am trying to make up for things that I felt I could have done better with my first wife. With my new love I am much more open and emotional than I ever was with Marlyse, parts of this make me feel guilty. I re-married in July and couldn't be happier, she makes me feel like a giddy young man. I believe you have to put everything into your new love and be able to talk about your spouse that died.
