OK.... So I was reading from the WEB MD. I was wondering about spices and herbs we use often in Cooking. And what day to day health benefits they actually give. Well guess what......
A Dietician, Moreno and a Medical Doctor, Youdim came up with this information:
All spices have inflammatory properties because of their Phytochemicals. (Gotta love Mother Nature). Certain herbs and spices are better or stronger at fighting inflammation.
Herbs and spices should be used to cut down on oils and sugars. They suggest playing with certain herbs to get the desired flavors. But also, using several herbs at a time is more Health beneficial.
And as always Check with your Doctor or pharmacist. But certain herbs/supplements in pill form, have additives. (I didn't know that, live and learn). Fresh herbs are ALWAYS best. Well, that stands to reason.
Now on to our short list of everyday herbs/spices we use in our foods.
Cardamon, its sweet slightly pungent flavor is in Pumpkin spice. It soothes an upset stomach. Its full of Magnesium and Zinc. Believed in studies, to lower blood pressure and may fight cancers.
Chili peppers, fresh, dried, powdered... Are all good. They boost our Metabolism and are good for our blood vessels.
Cinnamon, semi sweet and you can add it to many drinks, like coffee or tea. It is believed through lab studies. It may fight conditions that affect our brain. Like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Cocoa, (Don't get to excited ladies). Cocoa is full of antioxidants. Its been shown to boost heart health and lower cholesterol. (Of course if your making candy with lots of butter. Or add sugar to the cocoa, you've just killed all the good health benefits).
Cumin, its Iron rich and a study showed it helps in weight loss.
Garlic, yes.... We know its good. But hey, they added it to their list. So... I am too. Fights Cancer... Lowers cholesterol and lowers blood pressure. (So what's not to like)?
Ginger, YES it really does help stomach upset. And calms you.
Rosemary, rich in antioxidants that prevent cell damage.
Turmeric, helps with more serious inflammation and pain. Also lowers your chances of a heart attack.
So...... The Moral of this story is: Live Healthy and Spice it up!

This is why I don't go to family functions. I felt very unsupported when I lost my husband in 2020. And my grandmother's 9 living children and hosts of grandchildren turned against me when I was managing my grandma's end of life care as her Power of Attorney. I was the administrator of the grandfather and grandmother's estates (an extremely thankless job that took over two years of my life!) When...

Plus some people have the gene for cancer. No matter what they do in life, they will probably get one cancer or the other.
I read a story, (true) about a couple that had three sons. The husband had a cancer and died around age 40. All three sons in their teens had cancer. Two died and the other lost a leg. All due to cancers. The son that lost a leg and his Mon were tested. She was not a carrier if the cancer gene. It was probably the father. And the son also... had the gene for cancer.
Anyone can get cancers due to many harmful things we eat and breath. But trying to fight the cancers doesn't hurt.
The other thing is a lot of this would also depend on the type, what stage its at.
I tried to eat a tad of garlic the other night and it triggered a bad reaction.
I use a lot of ginger, turmeric, thyme, black pepper, sea or himalayn salt, oregano, and cayenne pepper.
I freeze and use a lot of cilantro and parsley. I read that cilantro and parsley are good for digestion AND removing heavy metals from the body.
Also, just becuz you carry a gene for a certain disease, does not mean you will get that disease. Epigenetics and markers control whether or not that disease is expressed.
We actually have the ability to flip the switch or leave it off. We all carry cancer cells and they are not expressed unless the switch is flipped.
Disease is caused by several factors outside genetics. It has to do with lifestyle (eating habits, exercise, addictions), environment, how we deal with stress (high levels of constant stress plays a huge factor), repressing or surpressing feelings, and our beliefs.
This is not only what I have read/researched, but my own personal experience.
Now using herbs and stuff like that only really helps if you can tast them, because of chemotherapy her tast buds are somewhat messed up, fun side effect. She has also got the doctor stumped because she should be technical dead over a year ago she was given 3 months.
I worked in the funeral business for 30 years and saw first hand what cancer and chemo did to the body.
Sometimes a body appeared to have shut down way before the person died......very sad.
My hats off to your mom.....she is very brave.
