I was hesitant to try smoothies as I feared all the carbs as I watch them very closely since being diagnosed 5 years ago with diabetes.
I took control of my diet immediately and have been a controlled diabetic ever since. My A1C's reflect that consistantly since diagnosis. However, my doctor would not take me off medication......so that is when I took things into my own hands and have successfully gotten off that med and cholesterol meds (working diligently to get off blood pressure med.....down to a half dose).
Anywho.....I decided to take a leap of faith a few weeks ago while at the health food store (they have a juice bar at the back of the store) and tried one of their healthy smoothies......and now I'm hooked!!!! I use to just have organic unsweetened almond vanilla milk with soaked chia seeds and a little organic raw coconut meat for breakfast, but have invested in a small juicer and am experimenting with all kinds of veggies and fruits with a touch of my almond milk (won't be called milk for long....sigh) and my chia seeds.
I have digestive issues (SIBO, not enough acid in my stomach which gives me acid reflux and my nutrients are not being absorbed, gall bladder and liver issues.....and dyposis.....and leaky gut). It was suggested to do smoothies to give my digestive system a break as it's easier on the liver to break down liquid over solids.....thanks to a poor diet and big pharma meds.
With that and the herbs and supplements, I am starting to get better. It may take about 3-5 years to completely heal if I continue my lifestyle change. I am loving it and don't see it as a quick fix nor something to do until I remedy the 57 years of damage to my system.
It has been 2 steps forward and one backwards. Actually, when I first started cleaning up my diet further and adding supplements, I felt worse. It was explained to me that while the body is acclamating to the new diet and supplements and it must dump the toxins first. I have had to address one issue at a time to not get overwhelmed or hurt myself further.
Right now I am on a supplement to breakdown and dissolve the gall bladder stones....it also dissolves kidney stones (not sure I have them, but it wouldn't surprise me and the supplement supports the organs regardless).
Well, I'm just rambling here, trying to fill you all in so that you can help me....or each other.
My blood sugar is even better.....in fact.....it's in the non diabetic range since I changed to adding smoothies for breakfast.
I loved coconut water (trying to get my potassium requirements in daily), however, it does not agree with me. Yet I can eat raw organic coconut meat and I am fine.
I'm also NOT able to eat gluten or dairy....except eggs and chicken of in which I only eat organic and the chickens must be fed organic non gmo feed.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..........what is your favorite smootie? Any good recipes?
I usually have one with blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, spinach, banana, and sometimes dandelion and other bitter greens, and almond vanilla milk, and chia seeds.....oh.....and 2 tablespoons of coconut meat :)
Go ahead....you have 10 seconds to make fun of it and laugh!
Hmmmm my question is why don't the doctor look at people diets before they throw drugs at people? Stuff like diabetes and high cholesterol can be help with dietary changes. To me its crazy that they don't do that in the usa, here they do look at diet before the drugs.
