Suppose your in the woods and camping, lost or some similar thing like that. Where you can't get a pain reliever.
Aspirin is made from the bark of a Willow tree. There are many types of Willow's. Though certain ones have more of the active ingredient, salicylic acid. Which is the active pain and inflammatory ingredient in aspirin.
Native Americans used to chew on the bark of Willows when they had pains. Other ancient people did too, or brewed teas.
All Willow trees contain salicylic acid. So if need be, any type of Willow will do. Chopping up some bark, allowing it to dry a few hours. Then adding about a teaspoon to a cup of water, is how you would brew your pain relieving tea.
This is just a thought, but I thought it was a cool idea. I've known many years that Aspirin came from the Willow tree. I just didn't realize how easy it was to create a Medicine.
I always thought it was just a certain kind of Willow, white Willow, that helped with pain. I have a Willow in my yard. I'm interested in trying this since pain meds don't do Jack for me unless narcotic, which I won't take.
What part of the bark is ok? My tree grows lichen on it and the bark is very thick. I don't want to accidentally poison myself.
Also if you didn't know already, you can make a great headache reliever from ginger root. Just cut a few small pieces and put in very hot water. Sit with it under your nose and breathe in the steam and sip it. This has helped me with eye strain headaches and sinus headache.
