Fermented foods is actually a nice way of saying, Rotten food. And no one is suggesting that anyone start eating rotten vegetables. Though most of us do eat some fermented foods. Beer and cheese are two foods that are created through a fermentation.
Fermented foods are great for creating good Gut bacteria for digestion. In fact, fermented foods are so good for us, they actually create and allow more nutrients from other foods to be digested. So we need less vitamins because we are getting more directly from the foods we eat.
Fermented foods create and give us probiotics, Healthy good bacteria. And some studies have shown that fermentation can actually lead to a leaner more healthier body.
So what are a few of these fermented foods that are good for us?
1. Miso, a barley and rice and soybean paste.
2. Yogurt
3. Kefir
4. Kombucha
5. Kimchi, a spicier type of sauerkraut
6. Sauerkraut
I've never had Kefir or Kombucha. The others I've tried. Personally, I really like yogurt and sauerkraut. So... I'll stick with those two.
LOVE fermented foods and eat at least a quarter cup per meal (I eat twice a day).
It must be UNPASTURIZED in order for it to have the benefits :)
Will elaborate later.....a client just walked in!
I'm learning how to ferment food.
It looks easy, but I'm afraid if I do it wrong, it could become contaminated.
I read that it is best to do all different kinds of veggies as each veggie offers different required nutrients.
I can't do dairy, or gluten :(
I can't do garlic or onions either.
