Hives Support Group

Hives is a relatively common form of allergic reaction that causes raised red skin welts. These welts can range in diameter from 5 mm (0.2 inches) or more, itch severely, and often have a pale border. Urticaria is generally caused by direct contact with an allergenic substance, or an immune response to food or some other allergen. Hives can also be caused by stress.

Hello to All,


I joined today because I was tired of feeling like I was the only person dealing with hives.  I know I am not the only person, I just had to stop the pity party that would leave me in tears.  I had to reach out hoping there was a support group or discussion board I could join to chat with others with this malady.  I felt better just by registering.


I admit:  I am annoyed with hives!  However, I am HOPEFUL we all can be delivered from it.  I know hives arent the worse thing in the world and it isn't a death-fefying sickness.


Please forgive me if I have spoken too outward as a new member.  I look forward to learning more and garnering good conversations with other members of this board.  Thanks!

Do you know what can trigger your hives? In June I had one at the armhole sleeve/seam and then on the crease of my inner elbow from the 3/4 sleeve/seam. The allergist said that is called pressure/physical hives...induced. He suggested I take 30 mg of Zyrtec each day and wear loose fitting clothing. It's a challenge but I'd rather do that than have hives.

I’m right there with you!! I’ve had chronic hive flare ups now for 6 months, and I recently started treatment on Xolair as my allergist and I could not detect a true cause.
It’s infuriating to not find a true cause, right?? I’m going on month 3 of Xolair (third injection coming up next week) and I still get full body flare ups that are worst at night. I’ve been on and off prednisone and I take 3x the daily recommended OTC antihistamines. When I’m not on prednisone, the antihistamines work to a certain degree, and I feel like they recede much faster now, but damn… it’s a lot!!!

Wow! New here too. This is my second time having chronic hives. First was in 2018 for about six months and I basically just drowned myself in antihistamines until they went away. Unfortunately now I’m allergic to benadryl which helped the most so this time I’m trying a naturopath in addition to Zyrtec. So far homeopathy has been working fairly well, they come right back if I stop taking my apis mellifica. Hoping they go away sooner this time. Hoping to kick their ass and to start trying for our second child. Sucks how these can put your life on hold.
