Highly Sensitive People HSP Community Group
The highly sensitive person (or HSP) is someone who cares deeply about everything ... feels emotions with great intensity ... is highly conscientious ... has a rich and complex inner life ... is very intuitive ... is often creative in a variety of ways... is easily overwhelmed and/or overstimulated. A HSP needs lots of quiet time, space, and freedom. If this sounds...
I also live quite an introverted life and would like to connect with people who understand what it means to see the world differently. I am 22, but I've never really gotten along with people my age. I'm much more comfortable with people around 8-10 years older than me.
As for a little bit about me... I am currently studying Forensic Science. I also enjoy many of the subjects that you listed, especially art, music and culture. I also really enjoy writing, which I suppose could be classified under the art category. I just like being creative :)
If you think that I seem like someone you'd get along with, I think it would be fun to get to know each other more whether through e-mails or instant messaging. Heck, even hand written letters (I have a soft spot for those ^.^ )

I have been an Introvert and HSP all my life as well. I thought I had really bad anxiety but my naturalpathic Doctor informed me I was an HSP about a month ago. It is really comforting to know about this trait. It explains so much and why I just didn't feel a sense of belonging my whole life.
I would love to chat with you some time. I don't know very many people who share this in common with me.
Hope to talk to you soon

Brenda here. I know what you mean. I have looked many places to understand myself , my daughter, and husband. We are so content to sit at home, and do our own thing. I really thought something was wrong with us. My niece asked me one day why it was such a major production to get you people to go somewhere? I guess, looking at us from a non sensitive person's view, we appeared to be stuck in a rut, yet to us it felt totally normal. After working all week, I love to be home on the weekend, just recharging. My father is like that and my father in law. Non sensitive people like to push us along, thinking we are missing out on life, while we are trying hard to recover from it. It has been such a joyful awaking to me to understand myself, and not think i am crazy. I would love to talk to anyone, who can share info with me.
Take care,
We were each content to be in our own little world. Yes, there were plenty of times we did family things. We watched tv together, ate together, did things around the house; went to our son's baseball practice adn games - but we couldn't force something that other people decided we needed to be doing to be a 'family.' It didn't work, so we abandoned that and went back to being the way we were before that 'great experiment.'
We did things spontaneously and we enjoyed it. We enjoyed our son's growing up. My husband and son enjoyed father & son activities. Mom enjoyed mother & son outings, etc. Yet, we each needed our 'alone' time.
Stuck in a rut - hardly!!!!!! Our son has a love of books and reading. My husband loves his computer programming. I love to create. Why would we need anything more?
herbertbr - You ARE Normal!!!!!!
Thank you for this topic. You sound very accomplished & interesting. I think it is frustrating when other people expect us to be other than who we are. Very often our lives are full & our minds are even more full ... but to other people we don't seem to DO enough. I don't know how some people can bounce from one activity to another with no break in-between. I personally need lots of time to transition or I beome over-whelmed. I grew up always thinking "something must be wrong with me" because that's the message I received. The sad thing is I am now 63 & still struggling with this. I always have a "social obligation" list that gives me a guilty conscience. I know people often think I am not friendly. That's just not true. I sometimes feel like saying, "hey, I'm juggling everything as fast as I can". It's never enough for some people. I seem to be surrounded by extroverts who need to keep busy all the time. I wish I knew how to explain in a way that they would understand.
