I am in a very difficult position at work.
I work as a porter for a parking company. I work at 2 parking garages as well as at a surface lot. I work at an area of parking garages managed by my employer. There is a Senior Manager over the entire area of parking garages who works for my employer. There are 3 area managers under the Senior Manager. There are also 2 supervisors who are assigned to a specific number of garages making up the entire area of garages. I report to one of the area managers as well as one of the supervisors. Each parking garage has 3 levels. I have several things to do on a daily, every other day basis, and on a weekly basis.
A maintenance check list has to be turned in on a daily basis.

These are the duties on the checklist…
· Sweep the entire garage
· Sweep the entrance and exit
· Get rid of cobwebs
· Clean the pipes that are located inside the garage; it took me almost my entire shift to clean one level of pipes in one garage.
· Clean the doors, door frames, and door handles that are located in the garage
· Sweep the elevator landings
· Clean signage that is located in the garage
· Clean the entrance and exit gate equipment, entrance and exit gates, card readers, pay machines and ticket machines
· Sweep the islands that are located inside the garage
· Mop the islands
· Clean the guardrails
· Sweep the stairwells
· Clean the handrails located inside the stairwells
· Mop the stairwell landings
· Get rid of gum that is stuck on the ground inside the garage
· Get rid of any spills on the ground inside the garage *such as transmission fluid*
· Take out the trash and replace trashcan liners
· Clean the trashcan lids and sides
· Clean the fire extinguisher cabinets
· 2 daily space counts *count the empty parking spots inside the garage; the property management company requires this to be done* In addition to these duties, some porters have daily extra duties such as…
· Mop the wheel stops inside the garage
· Mop the stripes on the ground indicating where the elevator landings are
I have to do that as well as the following…
Make sure that the trashcan liner inside every trashcan is not showing *this has to be done on a daily basis because the cleaning company that is used at night… the trash is taken out on a daily basis, and the cleaning company does not do this*
There is an amenities bay located inside on of the parking garages I am responsible for cleaning. I am responsible for cleaning 2 garages. The amenities bay is located in a section of one of the garages. It has a car vacuum cleaner, a tire pressure machine, and a machine that is used to clean the floor mats inside the car. That area has 2 parking spots. I have to mop the parking spot stripes as well as clean the equipment.
The Senior Manager over every porter at work expects the garages that they clean to be spotless by the end of the week. If a specific job duty has not been done for any reason, she has a discussion with the area manager who is over that garage.
The problem I am having is keeping all of the pipes clean as well as everything else clean by the end of the week. The area manager I report to is not happy about that. He expects everything to be done by the end of the week no matter how much I have to do.
I have been given 5 days to get the pipes clean in addition to everything else being cleaned. If not, additional disciplinary action will be taken.
I need help regarding dealing with him as a manager as well as dealing with his expectations.

Are you the only one who has trouble with the amount of work that has to be done? If others feel the same way, maybe together you can talk to your manager or supervisors?
I don't really know what the best solution is. Maybe others will be able to offer more helpful advice.

He spoke to the Senior Manager over the entire area of parking garages regarding the fact that I cannot clean all of the pipes by myself. She agreed to send one of my co-workers to help me this Tuesday and Wednesday.
The area manager I report is currently out of the office until this Wednesday.
One word to describe my area manager is workaholic.
He works 65 hours a week even though he receives a salary for working 40 hours a week.
He has a wife and a couple of young school age kids.
I am not a workaholic.
I will never be a workaholic.
My employer is making some changes, and I was told that my last day of work will be Thursday December 31st.
I will not have a job beginning 2016.
There are 2 other parking garages that are managed by a different property management company. The only porter working at those two garages will still have her job. She will still be working in the morning. She cleans a total of 14 floors.
There has been a shift change for the other porters.
Instead of working 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the porters will be working overnight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday through Friday.
There will also be a bigger crew and more work to be done.
So as of January the only morning porter will be the one who cleans those 2 garages.
The good thing for the porters working the overnight shift is that they will get a raise. As for the morning porter, that may not happen because her garages are under an entirely different property management company that wants to save money by having her clean 2 garages all by herself. She has stated that if she does not get a raise, she will quit. Both of us have the same manager, but he does not know that she wants more money.
The parking garages I clean will fall under the different division beginning in January.
If any of the other garages have to be cleaned before 7 p.m. or after 3 a.m. who knows what will happen.
The property management company does not want to see dirty garages.
