Not sure how this happened. I loved this man for 27 yrs, turned down his proposal, both of us were married a year later, not to each other..
I contacted him 22 yrs later, I had planned on divorce, then my husband was severely injured, and I needed help, enter the ex-boyfriend.
Nothing happened between us, until I said I was done, and he witnessed the abuse.
We've been together 4 yrs now. I'm divorced, he's not. Things are messed up with his marriage. He doesn't want to fight for his rights, but he's getting closer.
Now, he all of a sudden decided that I need to date someone else, but he needs to meet them first.
I"m at a loss. When did he become my brother, and I'm afraid of dating. Help!!!!!

The healthiest thing you can do right now is to take care of yourself, you don't have to tell him what you are doing to seek help, just go do it.

Also, from what I can understand this ex/boyfriend person is still married so that is another red stop light right there. He is clearly happy to cheat on his wife, who he made solemn promises to - that says to me, a few years down the line, when he gets bored again, he will cheat on you too. The fact he has still not divorced is also bad - he wants his wife around as a safety net in case he wants to go back to her. He cannot commit to one woman, If he wanted to commit to you he has had plenty of time to do so, to leave his wife and make a life with you.
He says you need to date someone else - why would he need to meet them? He has no reason or right to do this.
