Hi Im a Hair Puller.. Community Group
Welcome to "Hi, I'm a Hair Puller.." a new community for fellow trichotillomania sufferers to come and share their story. Everyone has a unique journey down this path of hair-pulling. Come in and share your experiences.
I'm Susy. I suffered from trichotillomania since I was little and still to now but not as serious as it used to be when I was younger. I had no self-control and I restored to pulling my eyelashes off completely to where I was bald.
Something that helped me was taking anxiety medication, coloring, listening to music, going on walks, hanging with friends to keep the mind from wandering. It has helped over the years but I still have times where I kind of get a relapse and it sucks but trying to teach yourself healthy behavioral habits and helps everything get better each and every day.
Also, journaling is a good way to rant about your day or just write how you feel. I went to a lot of therapy and never listened to what they told me but now since I have gotten older it's made more sense to me now.
If you need anything else or other advice. I'm here to talk and help my other fellow babes on here struggling with this. Hope all is well! <3
I'm very sorry you're going through this. I definitely understand how frustrating hair pulling can be. I'm 30 and I began pulling my eyelashes out around age 13. For most of that time, I had eyelashes but there were sections missing here and there. I stopped completely a few years ago. The way that I stopped was inviting less stressful people into my life which could mean putting up boundaries for yourself. For example, I had a few people in my life who caused me daily stress. I still talked to them but not as frequently to protect my own mental health. Stress for me is one of my biggest triggers. I got into a toxic relationship 2.5 years ago on and off and began pulling again so it is a constant battle for me. I have been trying different medications for a few years for depression.
What does help me is eating well and eating regular meals; when I get hungry I get anxious. Also, journaling, going for walks, going to therapy, playing with my dog, yoga, and crocheting help me. Just know that you are not the only one going through this and it is very big of you to seek help. I couldn't do that at 16. :)
