Hey. My boyfriend is currently in jail right now I'm not sure for how long.... he was an IV drug user and he has been diagnosed with Hep-C
I have been tested and I am okay however I am going to get tested again in 6 months.
I need advice on how to help my boyfriend. Since he's in jail can he still reviece treatment? Someone said that he has to be drug free for a year before anyone will give him treatment?
His doctor said that his number is in the 5million i dont know what that means I don't know what shes referring to but she said that it was a high number. She said that it's not good and suggested he get treatment asap. He is going to be meeting with another doctor in the jail sometime this week. What does having a number in the 5million rage mean? She didn't really explain it to him very well he is going to be seeing the doctor again later this week for more information but of course I'm a worry wart and I wanna be proactive since it's his health and I love him.
How can an inmate get treatment? Is there any kind of law that protects him in the federal system as far as making sure he gets the care he needs?
What kind of questions should I ask him and have him ask his doctor so I can do my research and discuss options with doctors who aren't just the ones in the prisions? I want to get him the best most effective treatment I can.
How can people get treatment in general? I've read online about it and by the looks of things its very very expensive. What I read online was somewhere between 80-120 thousand dollars.... He should still have his health insurance that he had before his arrest I'm checking on that today to make sure it is infact still active.
With insurance how much do you have to pay out of pocket usually? If he can get the treatment done in jail does he have to pay for it or is it something the jail pays for?
Any information or advice on this situation would be very helpful!
