I titled this survey, "The Hardest Place to be is in the Middle." I've been trying to figure out if there's a way I can give parents like us some kind of voice. This is a start to that, I don't know where it will lead, but it is a way to collect our stories in an anonymous format. At the very least, I will post the responses so that other parents who find themselves facing this will have a place to read what it was like for others and know they're not alone, not crazy.
I have to figure that out yet. I'll be sure ti let you know when I get a spot to post them. Thanks for filling it out, so far there is just one other response. I haven't even added mine yet.
I realized I should add a line in the survey about whether it's OK to put your words online for others to see, before I share the responses. So the three who have already filled out, thanks so much, if you could go back and just add an answer to that question, that would be great.
Just realized it would also work to just send me a personal message using the envelope icon above, on whether I can include your personal responses. Right now I'm thinking the first step would be to post them in a Google doc that's available through the link only, not searchable.
Thanks to those who have filled this out. I feel a sort of holiness is reading the responses because I know they all came at such a huge cost. I will work this weekend on creating a way to share them via a link.
I will keep the survey open, feel free to fill out or add more at any time.
ArwenSeraphina, glad you found this board, I hope we can be of some help and support. Share whatever you want here whenever you're ready, or just browse. The board is just now getting a little active after years of inactivity.
Just bumping this up. I'm still hoping to do something with it. I signed up for a class in web design to try to get some ideas for creating a site about sibling sexual abuse--since I have yet to find one that already exists. If you do the survey, there are questions about whether it's OK to share anything you write or not, and if so, how you would want it identified on the web. It's fine to fill out and say no; at least the clickable responses would be tablulated as part of a total.
Great, I will take a look. I'm taking an online class about web development to try to give me some direction for how to put something for parents of SSA online.
Thanks for filling it out. I'm finding a bit more online than I have before and am still trying to find the focus of my purpose/site.
I definitely have felt, especially in the beginning, the stress of trying to "act normal" and withdrew from a lot for that.
My daughter is leaving for college in August and she seems to be doing OK but we never talk about anything--because that was her request when her therapy ended almost 2 years ago. There's so much more I would like to ask and say and I don't know if or how to bring it up. I really wonder if she felt I was choosing him over her or if she felt she had to say what she thought I wanted her to say to authorities, etc. Or if she really did agree with me.
I feel like I've lost trust not just in him, but in her (in the sense of wondering if she's just saying things to protect me), and most devastatingly in myself, in my ability to perceive who I am, who my family members and people around me are, and what's real and not in the world.
