So after having a fine sex life for years after diagnosis, I am now being forced to change/curtail much of my pleasure. And I'm sad and angry. I've reached the stage in perimenopause where I spot/bleed constantly, esp. with any contractions (lie orgasm or even peeing). I know it's hard to transmit HCV via sex, but now there's blood, or a chance of it, involved constantly. So I've had to give up oral, gspot. Two of my faves. I know we can buy lots of latex and will probably have to (all we have in the house are condoms; I know they make protection for everything). I also know this will pass, though it could take years. I do need to see a gyno to make sure everything's ok. I'm a bit lax about dr. apts, since i devote so much other time and energy to my health. Also sad to realize my body won't make any more children. Not that I want a third, but it's different to feel like it was my choice. Mostly just grieving the changes to my sex life. I can't wait until I am done with this virus!
What a stressful time for you! My heart goes out. Hopefully it will get better soon, thank God for handheld vibrating shower-heads. giggle We are very careful about not having sex with any possible cuts or blood. Wondering, why you are bleeding exactly, is it just the womb shedding all the time? OK, sorry, I had to google it. http://www.webmd.com/menopause/guide/guide-perimenopause
It does say to talk to your doc if you bleed after sex.
Funny, before I found out about the HCV, we used to have sex on my period all the time, and he never got HCV. I think some people are just more likely to get it than others. I have Herpes 1 or fever blisters that exploded all over my lips from the time I was 15 until a few years ago. I have heard that makes a person more likely to contract HCV on exposure.
Have you found a treatment that you like? I'm still waiting myself. Meanwhile, Vitamin C, coffee, green drinks, and lots of fresh produce, ALA, and some other supplements are keeping me going. I got a bicycle I plan on riding when the weather gets a bit cooler next month. Should be fun. Still hiking and swimming and just finished freezing about 100 pounds of peaches from our tree. They taste so good in a smoothie or ice treat.
Oh, did I tell you about making icecream out of the avocado chocolate mousse? I blended 1 cup walnuts with 1 cup of water, added a little maple syrup and vanilla, 8 oz of choc mousse, then a couple of trays of icecubes and VitaMixed it. Wow, what a nice treat! Tastes so good. Thanks for sharing the mousse recipe, we keep a lot of avocados around here.
Your sex life isn't over! Change can be empowering. A temporary stay of some activities may make things more fun later.
I guess its normal to grieve a perceived loss, but this phase will pass. Def get checked to confirm everything is normal.
Normal is going through changes & stages of life, and embracing the new adventures!
Thanks for the support, guys. And for the IC recipe, Mak. I've been just freezing the mousse, but the texture isn't like ic enough for my daughter.
And yes, it's just womb-shed. Not sure what's going on. Aging is quite humbling.
I see the liver guy in Oct. and will talk about TX then. I'd love to wait for no Riba, but I'm 1a...
When I was working at an AIDS clinic they wanted us all to get vaccinated for Hep B, and they told us that if the person has a cut or a sore and touches the desk or a door handle, and later you touch the same thing with a paper cut, you can get it. I'm not sure if this is proven or just theory. I didn't get the vaccine and didn't get Hep B either, for what that's worth.
snorting cocaine and sharing a straw could do it. All it takes is for someone to get a little blood on the straw and then the membranes inside the nose are easily cut.
My huband and I have been married for 30 years. We were told that a man was capable of spreading it to his partner but because a woman doesn't secrete into her partner therefor not likely my husband doesn't have it.
sharing coke straws....they can damage the inside of the nose and get blood on them. so that would be a reasonable possibility. Also, you could have gotten it from your musician friend and he could have cleared it. Who knows?
