When you look at the real facts about the viral load, it will send shivers down your spine.
The # the lab tests give us is copies per milliliter.
That's how many copies show up in a milliliter of your blood.
You have about 6 quarts of blood in your body.
That's about 5678 milliliters.
So, let's say your viral load is 2 million.
That's 2 million per milliliter.
So that means there are 11,356,000,000 (about 11 and 1/3 billion) virus copies in your entire body, and given the fact that they congregate in the liver, and not at the spot where they are taking the blood sample, probably more than that.
The important thing is, what's happening with your ALT and AST. Viral load can change in a few hours, just get upset and the little bounders multiply like crazy. ALT and AST, on the other hand, seem to be a bit more steady.
The best time to get your viral load tested is when you're feeling good, and not stressed out. Don't go the day after you lose it and scream bloody murder and throw things and put holes in walls! LOL
What it says to me, is that the VIRAL LOAD is not a chief concern unless you are in Tx. And trying to lower the viral load on a dietary and supplement approach to staying healthy and learning to live in harmony with the virus instead of trying to bombard it with chemotherapy is pretty much a lost cause.
Either do the Tx or forget about your viral load.
If doing Tx is not a viable option, if you're like me, genotype 1A, 57 years old, post menopausal, no insurance (that's the catch right there) a liver Dr will try to get you in a study. That's a terrifying thing, you just don't know what you're going to get, and when it's over, you're no longer "treatment naive" and when they finally get something that works, you'll have a harder time clearing.
For me, what this says, is, forget about lowering the viral load. Just focus on boosting the immune system and protecting the liver from damage that is avoidable, such as alcohol, smoking, junk foods, stress....ok, stress might be hard to avoid, but we do our best. Exercise and get enough sleep and have a positive attitude.
Yeah thats what orthomolecular medicine advises - focus on making the person strong instead of focusing on the bug. My doc at the ortho clinic said traditional medicine got that way since they learned to kill infections so well...so now they try to go after viruses that way.
It's getting a bit crazy out there now I think...they treat HCV like it's bubonic plague or something..lol.
ah, there it is, I felt that question somewhere around here.
My vegan diet lasted about 2 weeks.
I'm now eating raw eggs in my smoothies
and sprinkling salmon on my salads.
oh, and I had a little yogurt in a smoothie last night
1/2 cup each of mango, papaya, strawberries, yogurt and orange juice.
it was really good.
I won't be eating a lot of yogurt, but we have a whole quart of greek yogurt to finish, that expired 7-13.
That's what my alternative doctor told me, forget the viral load and focus on the immune system. But I did have my VL checked Friday before starting the neuropeptide treatment on Monday. I want to see what, if anything, it will do for the VL.
Yeper my hep dr told me the same thing, once I was diagnosed, and freaked out, I checked my vl by pcr every 6 months with my normal blood work. The vl varied dramatically, and until I was educated it worried me a great deal. What stayed flat and even got under normal levels was my alt ast. It was my diet and alcohol consumption I'm convinced along with changing my lifestyle and becoming at peace with the demon that changed things. Not only that but the vl levels at least stayed within a reasonable range from the previous testing. I got to think just the anxiety of the test drove the vl number up. Once a person gets over the why me phase, and learns to live with the virus, tweaks their, you'll be just fine. Don't sweat the vl numbers all you really can do is what you can do.
I have noticed the same thing, Colee, when I found out, I was all over the place trying to "do the right thing" and had medical people telling me that if I didn't do treatment I would be dead in 10 years. Well, I feel better now than I did then, and I notice that it took about 5-6 years to calm down and realize that the best thing I can do is be happy. Live in harmony with a situation I cannot change, I can't just decide to be without the virus and it will be manifest immediately. But I can decide to be happy! Some things have changed since then, some things have not, but I try to be happy anyway. Just happy to be alive and to be sharing this journey with you.

I spent the day listening to 7 minutes for liver health, a nice meditational free download.

Actually, I just googled and top hits say there is more like 8 pints in women and 10 pints in men. of blood.
care to share?
thanks so much
