We need to replace our kitchen counters. I was planning on granite, but now I read it releases radon. THe two green alternatives I found are rediculously expensive ($40-$50 a ft.) Any ideas?
granite releases radon? ack! I knew it wasn't sealed and could get bacteria inside the stone. We have old counter tops, the kind from the 70's. One of these days, we will remodel.
I read that it all releases some radon, but many samples release low levels. Others have it very high. Granite is a composite of other stones, which i hadn't known, including uranium and other radioactive ones, so it releases radiation as well. Again,t he powers that be say it's usually in safe levels.
Snopes says that not all granite releases radon.
