So I've read that HCV makes them low. I've been getting my bloodwork together before my dr. apt. next Fri and only one dr. out of the last four tests ran platelets (they were low). I havne't been asking for that, just LFT and VL. What does low platelets mean and is ther e a way to get them up?
All I know about decreasing of platelets, is that the spleen (its major role is purify abnormalities of red blood cells and platelets) when its getting bigger it works as hyper functioning that would remove more platelets even if they are normal, leading to decrese the count of platelets.
And if it decreases and the whole complete blood picture still normal.. so no worries of low platelets

Platelets being low is called Thrombocytopenia. It's a sign on liver disease. It increases the risk of internal bleeding if it is VERY low. How low is yours? It doesn't appear to be a real serious problem until they drop to 20 or below.
I tried to raise mine with shark liver oil from Life Extension Foundation after reading an article they had published about its ability. It did not work. My platelets have been close to 100 since 2005.
