SO the legends go. Here's a good article about the Brassica or Cole Family of veggies and what's up with the rumors. Evidently you would need to eat 1-2 pounds of kale, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels, etc., every day to mess with the thyroid.
Thanks for this. I signed in for e-mails. Love learning how to take better care of myself.
I had a pretty bad case of hypothyroid, and probably due to the interferon that i was on for 11 months. I am now on np thyroid 90mg.
I may have experienced some thyroid interference on the Harvoni, as I gained 10 pounds on treatment. I quit taking Harvoni in mid May, and have finally lost the weight 6 months later. I lost it in the last 6 weeks. I was thinking about getting my thyroid checked, but without any income until later this month, I had to take matters into my own hands. I fasted a couple of days, then began to drink tea and kombucha all day and not eat until dinner most days, unless I got hungry, then I would have a smoothie green drink for lunch.
It's working well for me. I'm actually not hungry in the morning when I get up, so having some jasmine or assam tea with nut milk is fine. I make 5-6 cups of tea and drink it while I go about my day, then for dinner have a green salad with homemade sauerkraut and some thick stew or stirfry etc.
I made 8 gallons of sauerkraut this summer and fall, from homegrown green cabbages and onions. I made one gallon adding a pound of ripe red bell peppers, and added onions to every batch as they help the fermentation and add probiotics. Nothing quite like fresh homemade sauerkraut, so healthy.
My thyroid died when I did the interfeuron also. I did sign off that it could affect my thyroid, but I didn't believe it would - I was wrong.
I was so tired but my thyroid levels kept coming back okay.
Then one day I was getting labs done for the new treatments and my thyroid levels were so high, they gave me too high of a dose of Synthyroid. I had a bad case of hypothyroidism (no one would listen to me) and finally now I take 75mg a day Synthroid brand name.
I will try generic later on again in the year. My energy levels really improved - shocking the difference it made. Wish I could eat Kale, but tummy does not like it at all......Pains....

Mayo Clinic has a good article on Hashimoto's hypothyroid.
